Having problem gettin my car out of park....

I jumped in my car today and i try to put it in drive and it wouldn't go after like 5 mins i got it into drive but when i turned the car off and jumped back into the car it went back to actin dumb It's a 1995 max automatic. The nite before my girlfriend spilled soda in the gear shifter i wonder if that has any to do wit it please help me...

Yes, it does.

Clean up the spill, it's gumming up the shift release solenoid.

If you have an early '95, there was a TSB about this.

The A/T shifter may intermittently stick in the "Park" position. This incident may be caused by spilled liquids such as juice or soda coming in contact with the shift interlock mechanism. A countermeasure shifter control device, finisher, and cupholder are available to guide any liquids away from the shift interlock mechanism. These countermeasure parts have been installed during production on all Maximas beginning February 1, 1995.

Does anybody know how i would go by cleaning this or should i just bring it to a shop

make sure you search for how to remove the trim and such. A lot of how to threads on shifter replacement/removal will give you pretty much all the info plus pics. and get to dissasembling man!!!

Dont take it to a shop, unless u just wanna waste your money. Everything around the shifter is easy to take apart, do some searchin.

mine solenoid is doing the same thing i have a 95 how would u suggest cleaning it?

By...cleaning it. What do you mean?

Clean up any residue in the area. May be easiest to remove the center console to do so, unless you want to work through the hole for the shifter trim.
