HELP...Starter motor dead

I just got into my 99 SE-L after work and all of a sudden the my starter just quit on me. I did notice that the car took a little bit longer to turn over the last week or so but never expected it to just die on me. The battery is 2 months old so I'm good there. The only thing I hear is the solenoid clicking.

Is there any possible trick that will revive my car one last so that I can bring it home and work on it? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

You can try tapping on it with a hammer or a wrench. If you have a 5spd you can push start it.

This is the EXACT same thing that happened to me 3 weeks ago. For about a week, I noticed somewhat sluggish starts, but I had a new battery and new "+" and "-" wires - so I knew it was none of those. Finally, I came out of a store in town and the car just wouldn't turn over... ...the starter had crapped out.

Immediate Solution? Forget the AAA card (for now) - - just go into your trunk and grab the spare-tire lug wrench. Pop your hood, and jab the starter motor with the straight end of the wrench violently 4 or 5 times. If you have the same luck I did, your Max will start right up so you can get home (it's likely to not start the next time you try, however, so keep it running until you're home).

Thanks for the input. I tried the banging of a hammer on the starter motor and solenoid with no luck. I ended up towing the car with my 04 pathfinder with two sets of two ropes. Quite an interesting ordeal. Thanks again!

banging on it will KILL the starter. tapping on it won't hurt it.

Haha this happened to me at work last week...i simply push started it after trying to tap the starter with a hammer. Got the car home, changed the starter and I was good to go again.
