Which sensor is P0430?

This P0430 code is referring to which sensor below?

B=Bank, S=Sensor
B1,S1
B1,S2
B2,S1
B2,S2

Thanks

I just use my work ConsultII and clear it,but i have a custom Y-Pipe so that cat is already gone.

Cat converter correct me if i am wrong.

P0430-catalyst efficiency for bank 2 is below threshold.

There are two sensors in Bank 2. Sensor 1 and sensor 2.

I just want to make sure I'm getting the right sensor. Anybody?

Diagnostic Trouble Code 0703 (0430 Scan Tool code) points to a problem with the three-way Catalytic Converter.

The Cat is one of the principal components of the emissions control system. The Engine Control Module monitors the signals from the two front Oxygen Sensors and the one rear Oxygen Sensor. The signal frequency of each sensor indicates something about the condition of that sensor. A comparison of the frequency of the front sensors with the rear sensor indicates something about the condition of the Cat.

This malfunction was detected when the ratio of the signal frequency from the left bank front Oxygen Sensor to the signal frequency of the rear Oxygen Sensor exceeded a critical threshold value. This indicates that the Cat does not have enough oxygen storage capacity. Possible causes include ...
- Three-way catalyst
- Exhaust tube
- Intake air leaks
- Fuel injectors
- Spark plugs
- Ignition timing

Right out of the stickies.......... again.

O2 sensors are not on the list of things to check.

But they should be the first thing to check actually. The FSM is disapointing at times, note how a knock sensor code only has two possible causes, the sensor or harness. Haha, yeah, right.........

P0430 indicates a problem with the Bank 2 cat system on a '99 cali-spec car. I'd say just do a fed-spec conversion with two new primary o2 sensors, and simulators for the rears. If not it's a crap shoot as to whether it is B2S1 or B2S2, or a bad cat or the problems listed above, allthough not worth it to remove them before, I've found the culprit o2 sensor usually tends to rattle once it's removed.

Seems like diagnosing this is no easy task. I just want to verify that the P0430 code does not cause a lose in fuel mileage.

I get this code every so often myself. When I researched it it seemed to be a problem with the big precat that is in the front. This is also the one that is NOT removed should you get an aftermarket y-pipe. Apparently it's an expensive part to replace, something like $700 but don't quote me on that.

I used to just use my code reader and clear it out but the past two times I just left the CEL on and after a while it turned off by itself. Don't worry about losing gas mileage, with the light on I still get ~26-28 mpg... even with A/C on and some fun driving.

this code id not a code to be overlooked. what you have to do is you have to graph both sensors on that particular bank..S1 should read normally say roughly 1.1volts while cruising at 60mph constant. S2 should read next to zero.. when you get that code , S2 is telling you that the Catalyst is not doing its job. if your getting readings that are equal to or near equal to S1 readings then your catalyst has failed and must be replaced.

Other than possible problems during emissions testing, what effects does a failing catalyst have? Fuel mileage seems to not be taking a hit.

well the downside is that the platinum within the cat can start to come apart and your engine can suck it back into the cylinders causing engine failure..(prob not something you want)..lol

all engines produce backpressure and its the back pressure thast has that sucking affect inside the exaust and if the cat has failed it will suck it up like a vaccum sucks up dirt.well one of my coworkers is putting an engine in a spec V right now for that very same thing...i tell ya what, ill take some pictures of the catalyst that took out his engine and throw them up on here so you can see for yourself.
