Removed manifold; anythng I shld cnsider while I got this opened??

I just removed the upper intake manifold in order to replace the valve cover gaskets & spark plug tube seals; one of the rear coilpacks had some oil on it and in the chamber.

I figured since it’s been such a pain to remove the manifold w/ all the tube disconnections and hard to reach bolts I wanted SUGGESTIONS from experienced diy-ers on what I should consider having done/cleaned/checked/replaced while I have this thing opened up.

The car is a 1996 max with 134,000miles.

The fuel filter is easier to get at now. you could send your fuel injectors in for servicing, I've always noticed a nice difference after I've sent mine in, you probably would too with 134k miles.

Your knock sensor wouldn't happen to need a replacement, would it? It's a mere 12 bolts away...

Can the openings of the manifold (between the fuel injectors) be cleaned out with something? Right now it is black and wasn't sure if this was normal. Until I find the problem, it has been running a little lean or rich.

If you do choose to have your fuel injectors professionally cleaned, you may want to consider these guys.

I bought my 555cc injectors from them.

how long does it take for them to clean and send back the injectors? I will probably do this later on down the road as well

I wouldn't bother. In about 6 months or so it is going to look the same way again.

As pmohr said, KS is easy...

Clean out the ports as well as you can and replace. The manifold also, if you wash it out you'll see how black it is in there.

I would definitely do the knock sensor while youre at it, trust me you dont want to do it the hard way (I had to when my mechanic quoted me 500 dollars to do it)
