trunk key hole question

does anyone here have a shaved trunk keyhole?

i got my car fixed and inspected, so i can focus other things now. i have new clear tail lights coming soon. i plan to debadge the back of it, and i want to get rid of the keyhole.
is there a way to get rid of it?
what is the price range for a body shop to do this?

I have mine shaved and I love the look of the no lettering in the back. People who don't know cars always ask "what kind of car is that ?" For a shop to cover the key hole Im pretty sure they will have to paint to whole trunk to do the job right. So expect to pay about $200 to $300 bucks. I had mine done when my car got stolen and it needed a new paint job so I asked the body shop to remove the key hole and the insurance paid for it all so I can't give you number.

i as well as him, as he stated in the OP, want to know what the process was like to get the keyhole shaved. and maybe price?

i've heard things along the lines of popping out the lock mechanism thing so that your just left with a bare hole. then use a small piece of sheet metal or something similarly sturdy cut just big enough to cover the hole from the outside but still small enough to fit in the groove and get someone to solder it. then use that stuff thats kind of like wall spackle but for cars to fill in the space and then just repaint the area or entire trunk.

is that about right?

You're close. You pop out the lock (obviously). Then you cut a piece of sheet metal but place it on the inside of the trunk. It needs to be just a little bigger than the trunk circle. You then tack weld from the outside. Finally, fill it in with body filler ("Bondo"), sand, etc....

You can see some pictures here of when we shaved my windshield squirters, antenna, trunk keyhole and door guards....

Here's a simpler solution to your dilemma. Get a CF trunk lid.
