MY First Car

Just turned 16 a couple months ago. I have been looking for a car since then, looked at sentras and corollas and all that. When I saw this max, I bought it. cost 6000, and has 110000 miles

It needs a couple things done to it, but is in overall good shape.

I have already changed the oil and filter, changed the wiper blades, painted the wiper arms, hosed out the trunk, took off the front license plate holder, and gave it a little interior cleaning.

Other things im going to do.
Change the arm rest (the leather is cracking)
Swap out the shift **** to one from a 300 zx
Flush out coolant
swap the clock module (it dims)
condition the leather
fix the oxidation on the headlight with brasso
clean the car, and clay bar it

Anyone have any other suggestions? any concerns?
thanks

Got service history? If not, change your front 02 sensors. Go to autozone get the ecm scanned for fault codes. If there are any, record them and have them cleared from the ecm. Rescan in about a week and see if any came back. There can be fault codes stored yet not trigger a CEL. Good idea to do all fluids. Check your CV and steering rack boots for cracks too. The only concern I have is that you be cautious when taking advice from people. A lot of members who had a problem and fixed it get all excited and assume that everyone else has that problem too. Make sure you always check for fault codes stored in the ecm and do proper troubleshooting before throwing parts at your car. You car looks to be in excellent shape cosmetically, otherwise I'd say $6k is a little high, depending on the yr.

no, paid just over kbb good price, and it is in just over good condition. Got all the service records, has been in every 15000 for all the major stuff at the nearest nissan dealer, and had oil changed there every 3000.
The last owner also just redid the brakes and tires two months ago, and they did do the 02 sensor. Has a perfect carfax, and only the minor cosmetic flaws I have mentioned, runs great mechanically

edit: also, I forgot that i got a k&n hi flow filter to stick in it.
edit again: here is kbb for it

,maybe you should do some research about that before you put it in

there have been quite a few stories of dead MAFs as a result of the low filtration

I did do the research on it, and you are the first person I have ever heard who doesnt like them. Also, my dad had a black 96 maxima gxe a while back, and he never had any problems. Maybe a link to some of the posts where they say it has failed?
Thanks again guys for all the good feedback

edit: I see how you guys say it should be 4000 cause kbb says this for a GXE of the same year, with 10000 less miles

i paid 2600 for mine with 142k on it. but its cost me some money. had to put in new plugs and coils. a new MAF and fuel pump. and i just had to replace the half shafts cause they were cracked. ive only had the car 2 months. engine and trans are perfect though. seems like everthing else is screwed. this is my first car and ive learned alot.

Do a quick search. You'll see so many threads about the effects of a K&N filter, your eyes will bleed. Not worth it IMO.

Oh, and next time, post your pics in the "Members Ride" section.

Welcome to the Maxima Family.

Regardless of what you paid, it's still a Maxima =], that's all that matters. It looks like you got it in pretty good condition. Complete all the maintenance needed for a 10 year old car, and it looks like you'll be good to go.

Congratulations on your first car. Like others have said do any maintenance first and then modifications. It doesn't matter what you paid verses what others have paid as long as you are happy with what you bought. Yeah some might have paid less but they also might be in a different marketplaces. Some cars cost more or less from different locations or private vs dealerships. Have fun and take care.

Like others have said nice ride. Nice to see you got a 5-speed. I highly regret choosing an automatic.

Enjoy!

I have all of the maintenence done on it, besides the fuel filter and the pcv valve, bought the parts just need to install. i have done a lot of maintenece on it so far, just to make sure that everything was done, you never know quite everything the last owner did. Last night I spent five hours scrubbing away at the rims and clay barring and waxing. then it rained on my perfectly clean beautiful car.....

It looking nice now, doing a little leather conditioning tonight, followed by some more interior cleaning, and Im about done with all the initial stuff, and on to modding.

Over my vacation I am going to order all the parts I need to start doing a little touch up paint, shift ****, etc.

Does the maxima have an in cabin air filter?

So far in the last 4 days (i got it mon.) I have put in like 20 hours on just getting it just how i want. ITs really paid off. What are some of your guys favorite mods? (no tinting, lowering, or clear corners)
