Subwoofer mounting question

Hi -

I got a deal on an 8" tube subwoofer and a small alpine amp that I just couldn't pass up.

Now I need suggestions on the best way to mount the amp and subwoofer in the trunk.

I really want to keep access to the pass through hole and the spare tire.

I am thinking of mounting the amp on the underside of the rear deck and attaching some strapping points to the trunk floor and the rear firewall.

Any thoughts or suggestions???

Thanks!

well if you mount it there, get ready in about 6 month or less for you car o sound like a herd of horses trampling over a steel roof cause that thing will rattle your car silly if you mount it there...best to mount it on the floor honestly but thats just me

That doesn't make any sense. If you're going to secure the amp to the deck, why would you connect straps to the trunk floor? Mounting the amp upside down is bad if it's a traditional amp with heat sinks on the top of it. Being upside down, and the fact heat rises, you'll really be cooking your amp (and it won't help that the amp is mounted to metal to begin with) and not letting the heat sinks do their job effectively.

Oh, and you might get better responses here....

yeah....mounting the amp upside down is a bad idea! heat has a tendency to rise and your amp will eventually fry! As far as the sub goes...if it is a bass tube (like the Bazooka tube) they sounds best when the sound is able to bounce or reverberate off of something. So in my opinion i would mount it with the woofer facing the back of your car and neer the trunk lid for optimal performance!

Right on target. When I had my bazooka tube, I mounted it firing toward the pass. side tail light. Bazookas are very sensitive to mounting location and angle. I mounted the amp in the other corner, behind the driver's side tail light, standing vertically.

Straps would be to mount the tube.

Thanks

Thanks for the info.

I didn't notice the audio forum since everything I do on here is in the 4th gen forum. I am going to go search there next.

I appreciate the tip about not mounting the amp to the underside of the rear deck. Also, CRiME is correct, the strap points are for the tube subwoofer.
