I was looking at carpoint.com and some other car website and they rate the '95 maxima's engine as having major problems just b/c of the rear O2 sensor failing and b/c of the evaporator failing. How does that consitute such a poor reliabillty rating? My '95 maxima has been extremely realiable other than the O2 sensor failing

The website says it gets better after 96+. The O2 sensor was the only problem with my car with 50k+ miles on it. I love it.

DONT

believe a word MSN says....
I bought my 94 TBird under the premise it had 5 out of 5 bars.......
only often problem being the MAF sensor...
now the POS... everywhere else like Consumer reports "Spotty over all, AVOIDE THE 94 MODEL"
they all have horrible Tranny reliability
wish I'd a known that when I bought it

I had the rear O2 sensor and antenna both fixed under an extended warranty so I didn't question it too much. The dealer claims no recall exists for the O2 sensor. I know there is info to dispute that claim.

Maybe those Consumer Reports price numbers are for a GLE, loaded. I bought my '99 GXE brand new and paid only $16,620. Edmund's http://www.edmunds.com/used/1999/nissan/maxima/gxe.html says it now has a dealer retail of $17,420.

for the record

Starting in 1996 they made the engines out of aluminum which made the overall weight of the car 100 lbs. less. I don't know if this had any effect on anything else.
