first off: I know how i could do this, I just wanted to hear how some of you guys did it before I do mine.

Most of the maxima's that I see today ride around without the "maxima" on the trunk that the factory put in. I too like this look, I think it makes it look clean. Before I go yanking mine off I want to hear how some of you removed yours. Some of the maxima's that I see look as if they have left over glue stuck to the back, I don't want to be one of those. Any advice, comments, or stories would be appreciated.

 

heat it up with a hair dryer and use fishing wire to pull it off of the trunk and then use a goo-gone kind of deal to get ride of the glue

 

Yep def use a hairdryer to heat up the emblem. Once you do that it will be cake walk to take it off. Just use either fishing line, or floss. ( I used floss ) Keep sliding it back and forth and the adhesive holding the emblem there will come lose and then your will need some goo gone or goof off, and you should be able to take it right off with some elbow grease. Once your done polish n wax and your set.

 

I used hair dryer, floss, and bug and tar remover. I just used my finger nails to scratch the glue off.

 

I didn't use a hair dryer...I just let it sit in the sun. Used fishing line then goo gone. Also I would recommend clay baring to get everything off and then wax.

 

good idea about the clay bar. I have yet to "actually" completely clay-bar my car because I get tired after 1 door (no I'm not fat either).

I ended up doing as above today, execpt I used a heat gun because my sister wouldn't let me use the hair dryer . I scratched out the extra adhesive with my finger nail though there was a little left, After I went out to the store and bought the "goo gone" but it didn't seem to do much. I'm going to buy the claybar tomorrow to finish it off.

 

I used a hairdryer and fishing line...after i got the letters off i held the dryer on the glue and rubbed it off with my thumb. After that, i just washed and waxed the whole car cause it was due anyway.
If you're interested, you can also peel off the black tape on the door pillars and it's the same color as the rest of the car underneath. You gotta get it pretty hot though, and all the glue from it is a nightmare to get off (from my experience)

i did it on wednesday.
took me 1.5 hours.
first, put a hairdryer against each letter for about 5 seconds.
than take dental floss. i took 10 pieces at once because if i used only 1 it would break. with the floss, glide it behind the badge until it comes off. you will see "maxima" in double face tape. use the hairdryer again, except this time do it letter by letter. heat up the tape, and it will be easy to peel off with your finger tips. after that, use goo gone. i used the "automotive formula" from autozone. took me about half of a bottle to remove the residue from the "MAXIMA" badge. after you debadge, wash and dry the the area where the badge used to be, and clay bar it. i recommend the mother's kit. you can get it at auto zone for $19.96 with tax. well worth it.

The last picture the car is very dirty but it gives you an idea. Did this a week ago.

 

it looks pretty good, but my car doesn't have tints, i don't think it would fit the same look.

 

or just do it on a hot day and skip the hair dryer step..

My car was sitting in my garage for 3 days in 95+ degree heat and it was easy to remove the emblems and viynl but i would still recomend using the hair dryer for stubburn and hard spots. I had to use it on many occasions.

 

When I took mine off I used a hairdryer, and tried Goo Gone, but it didnt really do anything, ended up rubbing the black sticky stuff off with my thumb. Thank god most of it came off with the letters lol

 

I did a heat gun to get the initial emblem off, as well as most of the doublesided foam tape. After that I used 3m wax/adhesive/stain remover to get the rest off. The 3m stuff works great.

i left the emblem on, i think it looks to blank without it.

 

A low setting on a heat gun and some goo gone will get the entire job done in about 10 minutes. A hair dryer is no match for old, weathered, and sometimes fossilized glue. If you do it right you won't **** up your paint either

I've done it on a couple other cars, but I don't think the back of a 4th gen looks right without it. Way too plain.
