You can replace the lower oil pan without removing the engine, it's not that hard.

Would it be possible for you to take a picture of the damage? I might be reading it incorrectly, but when you say that the threads broke, which threads do you mean? Are you referring to the upper (aluminum) oil pan where the sending unit screws into ? If the problem is just that the lower oil pan somehow cracked, you can replace it without removing anything, as the above posters have mentioned. The FSM calls for liquid gasket alone, but Autozone sells a Felpro gasket for $8.

If the upper oil pan is somehow busted, then I can't really think of any other options besides pulling it and replacing, possibly with one from a junkyard. That's much more involved, however, and you have to remove your Y pipe, crossmember, and several other parts. The difficulty would obviously be multiplied if you're doing this on ramps. If you're interested in doing it yourself, the procedure is covered pretty well in the EM portion of the FSM. If you don't have the FSM, you can get it from here:

If you're unable to take a picture, maybe you can use this picture from motorvate to help point out exactly where the damage is, so other posters will be better able to assist:

the damage is where the oil pressure sender unit screws into the oil pan. This is on the upper aluminum oil pan beside the oil filter.

In the above picture its right where the wires are running into the oil pan.

Am I going to have to pull the engine to remove the upper oil pan?

Is there anywhere on line to purches a new or used one? I searched around and only found the lower oil pan for sale.

Yikes, that's the first time that I've ever heard of breakage in that part of the pan. I have to remember to be extra careful the next time I replace my OPSU You do not have to pull the engine to replace the upper pan. I strongly recommend checking out the FSM, as it outlines everything that you must do to remove it. You can buy the pan new from world parts express for $96, and they are great vendors of OEM parts.

no you don't have to remove the engine. the oil pan really isn't too bad. just take your time and read up on it. don't lose the bolts! there's alot!

while your at it you oughta get a aftermarket y-pipe....if you don't already have one. check your engine mounts too

I learned how fragile the upper pan was back in the day, when I tried to draw my trans onto the motor with the bellhousing bolts.

In retrospect, I should've stopped after I heard the first crack (or just not done it at all).

That piece is now sitting in my box at work, I might actually have it welded back on before I get my 5 speed in...

Whats a reasonable price to have the oil pan removed and replaced by a shop?

Wow....thats horrible...I think if I was in that spot and didnt have alot invested in the vehicle, I would clean it really well with a degreaser, let it dry, JB weld the area and thread in a new sender into the wet JB weld. It will all dry and be fixed but not 100%.

Also make sure the entire area is cleaned before you go and apply the JB weld and make you get NO JB on the end of the sensor.

So I put it all back together with JB, let it set for two days and filled the area in with some liquid gasket.

Fired the car back up again and Oil came pissing out.

Looks like I have to replace the pan after all, 500$ I didn't want to spend.
