97 5speed couldnt put car into any gear

ok guys heres my dilemma after coming out from the movie theater, i start the car up, soon as i try and put the car in reverse it just wouldn't go into reverse, so i try 1st, 2nd gear no luck.

The only way i got it to reverse was, Turn car off, put in reverse, start car up and then it would work, but once car came to a stop i couldn't put it to 1st, unless i Turned off car and put in 1st, also while pressing down the clutch it just feels like 100x lighter then normal, and when the car is moving either local or highway, i can get it into gear

never had any problems before it just happened out of the blue, any suggestions? thx

ps- i had the max since 60k miles and now its at 100k

Sound like the clutch isnt fully disengaging. Where did the petal normally start to bite? It may be the mastr or slave n the clutch system are dieing or the throw out bearing is sticking.

Start with simple first. It may sound stupid, but hey what if.....have you checked to make sure that by any chance your car ins't leaking trans fluid? Make sure you got the right amount in there. Also, correct me if I'm wrong guys, but that could be a bad clutch no?

Check the fluid reservoir on the clutch make sure there is fluid there if there is none or low add fluid and pump the clutch sounds like there is either air , or no fluid in the system that's why your clutch is disengaging

Dang i just had this problem like 2 weeks ago. it was after i installed my new clutch. it ended up being a leaking master cylinder and needed a good bleeding. everything is fine now.

Even though you could have rebuilt both of them yourself for $40 in parts & supplies (that's oem nissan stuff) NO, you were NOT overcharged, that's actually a fair price especially if they payed wholesale prices on some mexican reman unit's (still more $$ than getting the kits from nissan). The master is a biotch. And the shop showed there honesty and trustworthiness, they could have said it was the clutch, than said your tranny was fubared, and stuck you with a $1800+ bill, it happens. $280 parts & labor from a reputable shop for that job is very fair.

I have to agree here ... at first I might have been along the lines of it being too much, but after KRRZ's point, I feel it was fair as well. Like he said, they could have told you 10 other things and billed you out the azz, but they didn't. Sounds like you found a reputable shop and I'd use them if I ever needed to. Only problem I do see is, you didn't do it yourself ... so in that sense, yes you did overpay, but as noted .... you really didn't.

Dig the sig mate! Nice!
