Major torque loss

So im trying to figure out why i have almost no torque on a launch. I got the car used so i dont know the last time the spark plugs were changed. my mods are just basic bolts...could it be the warm florida air from the HAI?
any ideas what would cause so much low end loss?

Does the car feel better when it's cold? If so, could be heat soak.

no KS already kill that bird...im thinking heat soak...i have custom made heat shield though using ABS plastic. i might move some things around and check to see if its heat soak, but even if it was it should be to the point where i cant spin the tires on a 2k launch

Since you don't know the history of the car, I'd spend an afternoon and do a basic tune-up. ie spark plugs, PCV valve, clean the TB and IACV, fuel filter etc etc.

If nothing else, at least check the spark plugs. Takes no time at all.

Just how sticky are your tires?? Z rated?

Basic tune up FTW! i would start there cause all that stuff makes for poor performance. do you have check engine light on?

are you sure your intake is getting enough flow? where is it mounted? also ... you may clean the MAF and see about a fule filter too. cheap and easy fixes are a lot of times the case. are you auto or 5spd?

Your biggest problem probably is your HAI. It's known to lose low end with them. Stock FTW.

The chances of sucking up water with a CAI is slim unless you drive in several feet of water.
If you still have your stock intake put it back on or at least use your stock resonator with whatever setup you chose. Your intake right now is hurting your performance and is only making noise. A true CAI with using your stock resonator is the best setup IMO.

Also your expecting a lot. An almost stock automatic 4th gen in warm weather is not going to be able to spin the tires.

Iridium plugs wouldn't do squat for the OP's 'problem'...

I've started to notice a similar problem myself. I have a 97 5sp with a fairly new clutch. To get a good launch I have to launch a lot higher than usual, 2700-3000 RPM and I barely get a chirp out of it. I am not chirping into 2nd either.

Normally one would think this is just a clutch problem, but believe me my clutch is fine and I have noticed a decrease in power.

My knock sensor is fine and was replaced a while back, my air filter is fine and unobstructed, no CEL or ghost codes except for my O2 sensor heaters which shouldn't have anything to do with this (blew the fuse on the heater circuit for the o2's, but are otherwise almost brand new o2 sensors), I replaced my fuel filter and my spark plugs with NGK's. I've been filling up with premium. I just don't get why my car seems to be down on power.

Not too long ago I cleaned the TB and IACV as well.

Today full out I was barely able to keep up with a completely stock Toyota Tacoma used as a service vehicle for a nearby Land Rover dealership.....

If ya end up swapping out the plugs I would recommend the NGK V-Power cold plugs. How dirty was the IACV? was it a light black greasy film or was there shyt caked up in there?
