Blowing CV Joints

Blowing CV Joints
I have a lowered 95. To my guess it is dropped 2.25in on D2 coilovers. Both my front axles were blown, I put the suspension on and then replaced the axles. The passenger side keeps blowing but the driver side is fine. I have replaced them with a set of carques axles and then a passenger side autozone axle. Any reason besides cheap rebuilds that they are blowing?
Thanks

No it could still go some more, but yeah it is pretty slammed. Maximas have a high stock ride height and it looked good. Also I'm not 100% sure how much the drop was because I didn't measure before I lowered it, which wasn't that smart, I just measured after I adjusted the coilovers.

u sure the axles are blown? i thought mine kept blowing but it turned out to be a destroyed strut bearing. went to the dealer and they told me my car was to low(ST springs and struts) and binding my axle at a bad angle or something, so i went out and spent around 700 bucks on a H&R/Illumina setup plus prolly 400 on axles and found the bearing when installing the new setup .

I rode on sprints 2" lower, and never had problem with axles. more then 2" drop, I dunno, geometry gets changed and maybe stressed?
BTW, I"m parting out, still have axles, lemme kno if u want them.

well i get a like a spring popping sound when I just turn the wheel but a getting a plunking sound when I turn left and I can feel something rattle. I just replaced the axle today, and I'm going to raise the car about a 1/2 in all the way around tomorrow. I'll report back if it keeps happening

I'm going to disagree with the majority here and say that it's not being caused because of your drop unless you have axles which are already in bad shape.
For 7.5 years, since March of 2001 with two different maximas slammed down 2.75" on Ground Controls on my previous max and down 2.5" on K-Sport coilovers on my current one, I have never, not once, had a CV joint fail on me. I drive this car (and the previous max) harder than virtually anyone on this forum, lots of time on road courses and 450 1/4 mile passes between the two of them, half of those passes on drag slicks, delivered pizza in one of them for 4 years putting 100k on those axles with that drop, etc. Basically I've got more than 150k miles between these two cars slammed lower than you and lower than most, and never once have I had a CV joint fail on me. I've torn CV boots, the rubber part (which has nothing to do with the drop), but not one mechanical failure. knock on wood lol

have a buddy stick his head out the passenger side window and listen for the noise, if the sounds coming from the opposite side as the direction your turning, i believe its the strut bearing (sb correct me if wrong). btw mine sounded exactly like an axle and 3 different mechanics told me it was an axle including the dealership

Here is what happened to me...
To start with, all the bushings in my front suspension are brand new, my wheel bearings are brand new, and my strut bearings are brand new. My is lowered on Tein coilovers, and was set to Teins recommended ride height. Everything on my suspension was torqued to FSM specs.
About 3 weeks after getting my car back on the road after a lengthy rebuild of components, I noticed my passenger side axle clicking. I did not know the milage on the axle, only that it was not original. The clicking became progressively worse, and I decided to replace the axle. I used a rebuild from Autozone.
Approx 2 1/2 -3 weeks later, my axle started clicking again. I figured it was the crappy Autozone axle, and decided to take care of this once and for all and ordered a new axle from Marty @ Raxles.com
Fast forward another 3 weeks, and guess what happens? You guess it, clicking passenger side axle. I went through the whole front suspension again, checking everything for correct installation and torque. Each time I had the axle replaced I also got an alignment, so that was not to blame. I called Marty and spent a good hour+ talking to him about the issue. He suggested it was the ride height, so I tried adjusting it. Low and behold, problem solved. I went up about 3/4" on my coilovers (adjustment height does not = ride height) and I no longer have any clicking, unless my front right suspension is severly compressed AND in a turn.
My problem was being too low, 2 new axles kinda proves that. Sounds VERY similiar to the issue The Jackal is having. I also got some feedback through the steering wheel in turns before raising the car up some.

how hard is it to adjust coilovers? never had them but is it as simple as taking the tire off and turning something on the coilover assembly? if it is why havent you tried raising it yet....simple stuff first!

I would look into adjusting the alignment have a specialist set the camber caster and toe to properly utilize the drop. In most cases people dont have it done correctly and it kills the axles controll arms and tires. it couldnt be very much to have it checked. take it to a place that does setups on custom cars and autocross setups.

It's pretty easy but if the threads are all crudded up with crap or corroded you might have a problem turning the collars. but really it just takes the little tool that you get with the coilovers and sometimes a hammer to bang them loose.
