Okay this is driving me NUTSO!! (5spd Tranny) HELP!!

Okay guys i really need some help here. I have a 1995 maxima with 280k original engine and tranni. Okay. The transmission leaks... i changed the passanger axel seal because thats where its coming out from. Okay..now its still leaking!!! LIKE WTF? It was a pain in the a** to change it and its still leaking... I dont think the dif. bearning is bad because when i push the shaft where it meets up to the tranny there is simply no play... what can this be? I mean its pushing through the seal i know the seal is good i just replaced it. Also it is coming from the bottom of the seal and not the top? This is just driving me nutts!! Some 1 help.

Are you sure you didn't damage the new seal when you were installing it? It doesn't take very much and it will leak for sure. Any scratches or gouges in the casing from removing the old seal? Any grooves worn in your axle from the seal lip?

yea i am sure i did not damage it although i must say i had to kind of beat it in to make it go in. But i am just so sick of it i think i might just epoxy the damn thing and get on with life.

i have a 5th gen but i had the same problem with the driver side axle seal.

Finally, the third time i changed it i got it right. my first problem was i installed it backwards, the second time i installed it all the way to the back of the opening as far as it would go. and finally the third time i got it right.

So first off, make sure it is in the right direction. I am assuming that the 4th gen and 4the gen 5 speeds are essentially the same. according to the repair manual the seal should be .5mm deep into the hole. I used a 36mm socket to hammer in the seal at first but it was going in crooked so i used the end of a a socket extension to even it out and then a big flat head screwdriver to finish off that last little bit.

what i am probably going to do is either give it to a shop let them do it because im just sick and tired of messing with this car. Or just put epoxy on it because that stuff holds on to anything with force. Do you think it would solve the problem?

Probably not. Might work for a short time, but it's not a good long term fix.
