Running ****ty, EGR or MAF? read

so i have a 96 maxima 5mt, and its starting to run funny, when i first start it up it seems fine, but then after driving for a few minutes it gets really boggy and wants to stall at lower RPM's, like when im stopping at redlights i gotta rev it or it will stall on me. I went and got the computer checked and I have o2 sensor codes, a knock code (and ive had these codes b4 it never did anything to affect it, ran great but i noticed an EGR code. I brought it down to my mechanic and said its either my MAF or EGR thats causing this problem and i dont really know anything about the EGR what it looks liek or how i can fix it. Do i have to buy a new one? or can I just clean it. and if so how do i do that and get it off and such thanks alot

if i had to chose one of these i would chose the EGR, though both the MAF and EGR would MOST LIKELY throw a code if malfunctioning.

what caused it to start running funny? did you add or clean something that day?
was it raining? hot?
or did it happen gradually over time?

anyway the best way to locate the EGR and tube/valve is to find the IACV. where it mounts is where the EGR mounts as well, just on the backside (firewall side) of the IM.

the EGR is on the right side of this pic - the part connected to the big triangle in the middle, the thing with the hose/wire coming out of it.

theres a helpful pic somewhere in here but i cant find it. you should try searching "cleaning EGR"

heres one:

Have you ever done any work on the Intake Manifold? If not... everything could be clogged....

I reccommend taking everything appart and cleanning it w/a steel brush and intake cleaner. Any local auto place (autozone, walmart, w/e) should have it.

Maybe someone can chime in w/the correct cleaning solvent brand and name to use. Be careful b/c i've heard of people using to harsh of stuff.
