So my ECU was smoking today!!!!!!

So i as on my way to my parents house and all of a sudden my car lost all kinds of power then eventually shut down. Then the eletrical burning smell was starting to come. i turned it off then restarted it and my cel didnt come on when i put it in the on postion. So i figured my ecu just crapped out on me and my ecu was just bad

so i went to my parents house to grab the ecu out of the 97. i get it out and hook it up to my 96 started it up and the ecu started smoking again!!!

the good thing is that i let the 97 ecu rest for a while i plugged it back in and the cel light came up so hopefully its still useable.(but i didnt start it again cause i think thats when it shorted)

Obviously i have a short somewhere. at the moment the only place i can think i have a short is my 2001 injectors which i had to splice for the 00vi swap. Tommorrow i will take off the upper to check the rear wires but im almost postive that they are secured well. Other than the injectors i havent messed with any of the electrical so i dont know where else id be shorting out to cause my ecu to fry up like that.

so if anyone has any suggestions or comments it would be very appricated

honestly im praying that one of the injectors is shorting out. at least i would know the cause of it. but if it isnt then im pretty much left in the clouds. i would probley just change out the whole engine harness and start off from there

Can you find any signs of burning or melting around any of the ecu pins to help you narrow it down?

If not, open up the ecu if you can and look inside for burned components or traces then try to trace back to the corresponding pin(s). Beats the hell out of changing out the harness.

My accord did that 2 hours from home on the highway. Turns out I nice mouse decided to chew some insulation off the wires under the dash. Might want to check that if the injectors are ok.

well in the middle of pulling my upper off, i took out the iacv harness and well it was melted Im actually pretty happy and relived that it was just that harness.

i guess ill be getting a 4th gen block off plate and run the 4th gen iacv

im just so happy i didnt have to go far into investigating where the short was.

it just blows that i blew a ecu and im down to my last one but atleast i dont have to do any major rewiring. now im going to be all parinoid when i hook up my EU
