Is it a smooth idle? or does it drop and stutter? Someone correct me if I'm wrong but 500 seems a tad low. I think 700 or 800 is optimal, but I wouldn't worry as long as it's smooth.

I believe its 700 rpm with no load for autos and 650 for manuals.

My auto sits at 700 in park and 600 in drive.

I have a manual and mine sits at about 550 once it's nice and warm. It usually starts around 1000-1200 and works its way down. Sometimes it's more like 700-800.

550-650 for a fully warmed automatic in D.

i think the "consult" parameters are 550-625. or 600-650. i forget which.

it should say in your engine bay. i believe it is either on the bottom of the hood or at the back of the engine bay on the firewall. check in there and you should get your definitive answer

hey my 99.5 automatic, just start to stutter around 500 rpms, while sitting at the light. i put it in neutral and it did the same thing. its done that before while in drive (before i changed the coils and plugs) but never in neutral. do you suppose its a plug gone bad or even a bad coil?

have you cleaned your IACV recently ?

could also be a fuel delivery issue, such as an old/dirty fuel filter

Everyone has their own opinions.

I've had my auto set at 700 in park and 600 in drive for 8 years out of its 10 year life span.

Works great for me.

5spd's ideally idle at 650 in neutral.
Auto's ideally idle at 750 in park/neutral.

Mine did 700-750 while idling in drive and around 800-900 when idling in park.
