TPS issue

So my TPS is giving me issues now...I got DTC 1206.

I went to VQPower.com and went to troubleshoot the TPS and...couldn't pass step 4. Using my multimeter, it reads 0.00 on the TPS. My mm works...reads the battery fine.

Did I do something wrong? Or is my TPS just gone bad?

Sounds like you're checking the pin on the TPS itself without the harness connected to it. Obviously you won't see any voltage that way, as there's no way for power to reach the TPS since you disconnected the harness connector.

The howto says to disconnect the harness... and then in step 5 to reconnect the harness.. (?).

That is what the VQpower article says, correct.

I think they worded it wrongly, you should be checking the harness itself for sensor power supply, not the sensor.

Really, it's just common sense. If the harness is not connected, it's not going to generate +5v by itself.

OOOh haha I get it now... no, I thought the other harness was generating power to the TPS. If there were only one harness I wouldn't be confused...Thanks! Will check it in the morning.

Hi, great site, thankyou for your generosity of your time.

Quick question, if male pin #1 from the TPS, the male plug furthermost from the drivers side has 0 volts does that mean there is a problem in the ecu? I have noticed several mentions of incorrect wording and after just checking the plug and running the test, I have to agree it is worded wrong. There is 5v in the female part of the plug that would contact pin #1. I had to advance the TPS to near it's maximum setting to get the ohms down to average 400 and WOT is around 3600 which is shy of the 4000 as the test states. One good sign for now is the car idles at 650 in park and shakes a little around 500 in gear, hopefully run slower = save more fuel. Proof will be in the drive to work. I also noticed no more jumpy rpms when the thermostat started to open the first time. The car would run with it plugged in or not with very little change in rpms during the process, thought for sure it would throw a CEL. Only PO codes read from the reader is 0325 KS, 0120 TPS, and 1705 tranny or TPS which were cleared a few days ago and have not come back. car has 200k miles.

look forward to your response

Powell

This is the revised TSB for adjusting the TPS. The feeler gauges are a few bucks from any local auto store.

Ah, I was confused as well. I figured I would calibrate my TPS, and I thought the same thing. That guide must be misworded because I got 0 as well.
