'95 SE w/automagic tranny.

Original symptoms: Very rough idle. Would not continue running without giving it gas. Would not go over 30 MPH. Threw 0701.

New camshaft position sensor, replaced all coil packs, dropped in new NGK copper plugs and cleaned the MAF.

Idles much better now until you put it in gear. Once in gear it still runs but is very rough. Will not go over 30mph. Still throwing 0701.

About 1 year ago: All injectors replaced. BPT replaced. Upper EGR tube replaced. IACV cleaned.

If I push up on egr valve, engine trys to stall as expected.

Any sugestions on what to try next?

Do Nissan dealerships have equipment to test MAF sensors?

Will it not go over 30 MPH in regular driving, or WOT, or no matter what driving style?

All you really need to test a MAF is a multimeter and/or an OBD-II scanner, even the CONSULT-II doesn't do anything out of the ordinary to test it for faults.

 

Any kind of driving. It will barely make it up my steep driveway with the pedal to the floor.

 

See if the exhaust flow feels weak or normal. If it doesn't seem like there's much flow at all, pull the cat and take a look at it.

 

Another thought. The injectors are less than a year old, so I've been steering away from pointing the finger at those. Last night when I changed the plugs, two of them were what I would call fouled. They were black and wet. All the others were white and dry.

I'm wondering if I have two bad injectors again?

To do list for tonight:

- Check exhaust flow and cat.
- Test injectors of the fouled plugs.
- Test MAF.

 

Exhaust output seems fine.

Did the resistance test on the front 3 injectors with 2 different OHM meters and they all show open.

Did sound test on the back 2 injectors I could get to and they sounded good.

Did the sound test on the front 3 injectors and NO SOUND.

Unplugged all 3 front injectors and the car idles the same as when they are plugged in.

I know the back 3 injectors are new. Maybe I was still smoking crack and just thought I replaced the front 3 a few months ago.

Looks like everything is pointing to the front 3 injectors. Fouled plugs, open on the resistance test, no sound....

 

Changed out the front 3 injectors and the right front oxygen sensor.

Idle is still a little rough, but overall it runs better and I'm not getting any CEL's.

Took it on the interstate for a short run and hit 90, no problem. Just not quite as fast as it used to be.

BUT

Now I'm getting white and wet smoke. Fuel smell is very strong and after about 2 or 3 minutes, the exhaust starts spitting out moisture/fuel that puddles up after a few minutes.

Smoke and moisture goes away after driving for a short period.

Chances are you pinched an injector o-ring that's sealing up after it warms up. Yank the front 3 injectors again, inspect the o-rings.
