maxima's are a little on the large size compared to say a 240sx, but most new cars outweigh 4th gens, even cars that are smaller than it (probably due to all the new saftey features which I lack lol). Sure civics weigh 2000lbs but they have like no horsepower and personally I hate the sound. I'd rather have a car people can get in and out of, and my head isn't hitting the roof either.

The only thing IMO that clips it's wings it the FWD and even that isn't that bad unless you have MAJOR performance plans (Ive read about 12 second maximas, what more do you want?) and if you do...why are you starting with a maxima? But as for a sporty, fun, and competitive car, I can think of no match for the 4th gen maxima.

Don't mind what other people say. Maybe they are prejudiced. Maybe that had a max that gave them trouble. Maybe they drove a max with worn suspension components.

If someone thinks the max is grandma's car you can suggest they go drive a camry or sonata. If they persist then talk to them like you were their grandma.

Meh. I typically relish in the fact that people assume it is slow. Won a few dollars that way--thank you, Mr. V6 Mustang Driver!

On top of that, the 4th Gen has classic styling that never seems to get old with the passing years. Add to that the fact that upkeep and modifications are, relatively speaking, dirt cheap.

I can't remember how many times someone has gotten in my car and nearly **** themselves when they read the odometer. "170,000 miles? I thought this car was brand new!"

i love the max as much as the next guy but they are slow. it's not a sports car. comparing them to other slow cars doesn't change that.

reliability, value, and the classic styling, as mentioned above, are it's strong points. the vq is considered one of the best engines ever made by many, even before the 3.5 power plants, because of it's quality, not hp numbers. solid rear beam suspension leaves much to be desired,as does the mcpherson front.

i think a clean 97-99 gle or i30 is a thing of beauty, but i like them for different reasons than most guys around here.

I like that fact people underrate. Makes it that much more gratifying to wipe the **** eating grin off thier faces. There was a guy with a C5 Corvette in my neighborhood that is seriously scared of my car.

Considering the competition of the Maxima(Impala, Camry, Galant, Sonota, Taurus, MK, Mazda 6) I think the roominess along with the power, the better than average handling, and the reliability outperform it's class of similar sized and priced vehicles. The Macpherson strut design is effective and easy as hell to change and work on... now that's my opinion on that subject...I loved Maximas since the 1982 models!

+1.

190hp is plenty fast enough for me. I'm getting an 00VI and that's it for power mods.

I'm more into looks. Where the hell you going to use the full potential of a 12sec DD anyway?
