1st problem with the max

I have an oil leak. I cant really tell from where but it is definitely my nice clean oil. It is coming from what would appear to be a rear main seal or it could even be an axle I guess. Right from that area on the drivers side

could it be dripping down from the valve covers? thats what happened to me, now i have an oil pan leak supposedly. i cleaned the whole engine with degreaser and then after driving for a few miles checked where the oil was coming for... hopefully that helps

If you can get your hand back there, reach behind the upper intake manifold and feel the back of the rear valve cover. I did this to confirm that's where my oil leak was coming from. When I tried it my hand came out covered in oil. The job is not really a difficult one to do on your own, it should take you half of a day at most even if you have little experience. Be sure to change the spark plug tube seals too while you're back there, if the rear VC gasket does end up being the problem.

Edit: if the leak is coming from your driver's side, then I'm not sure if it's so likely to be the rear VC... I think typically the rear VC leaks down the pass. side area. At least, that's where mine leaked to . It wouldn't hurt to check it out anyway, I guess?
