ok so the idea is that the parking and the brake lights will go through the pwm and the 12v reg. The vreg will output the higher voltage. I have a diagram around here I'll post up. Just gotta find it.

Ok so here is the diagram:

you can see how the parking and brakes get wired and basically the brakes will override the pwm when applied. This is the setup I'm using for my new tail project.

This diagram is slightly different from what I was planning do.

thats fine. Just that diagram is a good way to wire it. There are other ways. You just need to make sure that the setup is ok for the type of array you have. What was your plan?

The diagram used a sharp regulator, I was going to use a 12v regulator from radio shack.

yeah that route would work too. Just that the sharp vregs are better than the lm317s you'd get at radioshack. Your diagram will work fine tho because it's the same concept. The parking lights run through the pwm and the lm317 and the brakes run to the lm317 on the pwm and change the output when the brakes are pressed. Just with mine it basically bypasses the lm317 on the pwm and uses the sharp to regulate the differences.

forget to ask, is that pwm sketch modified? Is that using the npn setup or switched to pnp setup?

If I read everything correctly, I'm using the one that came with the PWM kit, which is the NPN.

ok. If you're on hidplanet take a look in the advanced sticky thread. There is something in there about changing it to a pnp. It's better for cars because the npn uses ground connection instead of power connection. With cars you're using 12v signal to power the leds, having the npn transistor is not the best idea. Here's the link to the thread: http://www.hidplanet.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=27245

Yeah I read about that. Then I thought it was too much work to do.
So I was planning on doing the diagram I posted couple posts above.

Are you changing yours to PNP?

but if I was going to do the PNP transistor route, how would the schematics change?

no i'm not changing it because the way I'm doing it takes the output from the 555 timer to the sharp. Don't even need the lm317 on the pwm for my application. If you're going to use the pwm from quikar I recommend modifying it to the pnp transistor. Its a safer bet for your car.

I'll consider what you said, so I'm going to think of how to wire these things up now. Also write a list of what I need.

what do you mean how to wire them up? The led arrays?

You will have to make them, no one sells them for the max..

But even if you do make them, how are you going to attach them? There also going to look extremly retarded in halogen housing with a halogen bulb shooting through them.

I don't know what you are talking about, but they should all be visible. I haven't taken them off of my photobucket account. If not it's on my hard drive at home (I think).

going a different route.
Does anyone know how the key system works with the locking of the steering wheel? Thanks.

Just an update for some of those that knew that I finished my tail lights.

Where did you acquire your PWM? That's the only thing stopping me from LED tails right now...

to be honest with you, i hated the audi set-up. they looked ugly and weird.
but you guys came along and did a similar set-up and made it look nice.

I totally love the look of this, so I'm torn now, cause I want the Skyline style rears, but this looks so good...
Meh, I'll just have to get another Maxima (99 of course) and have one this way and one with Skylines..

Here is your PWM, I got it from here. Also known as a dc motor speed controller http://www.bakatronics.com/shop/item.aspx?itemid=383

funny thing is. I drove around with those skyline LED rears while I worked on these tail lights. I wouldn't get the skyline LED rears because they are made really cheap.

Thanks, but I still want to fix these up. When I have time and the extra money to do this I will redo this.

ive done this but they run thru the top part on my max. and my 98 mazda protege but my strips have 1 led evry 1 cm, used wether striping inside under the strip just to act like a dam and hold the epoxy and then black epoxy resin behind for that isolated from the headlight real audi look looks grate on both cars

just make shure not to get any resin infront of one of the leds and that the weather seal is stuck on there good or the resin will leak out of it oviously its no prob when its dry
