need rack and pinion which and where to get one

i was wondering where you guys get your racks from. i keep reading that many getting a 99 rack but all reman are same numbers from 95 to 99. also are there any difference in the line or hose hookup. i know it said to have better oring and seal but thats it. i will need to change it on my 97 and my 95 so i will be doing this twice. just wanted to check first before looking to order one. but i do notice my 97 is stiffer than 95 even though both have close to 200k on them. thanks for the info and help.

I bought mine from O'Reily's and had a local mechanic to replace the rack. I think I managed to get the job done within $400, including part and labor. By the way, Firestone gave me $1,100 estimate for exact same job. I guess somebody wants to get rich. Good luck with that rack.

I had mine replaced on my old max for about $350, but that was 4 years ago....and the reason they quoted you so high was because they would buy a new rack instead of a used one. a new rack retails around $800...used one half that or less

Firestone uses remanufactured parts, I actually asked them specificallly. They quoted so high for a different reason, trust me. And we all know, they will sell you remanned brake caliper for $200, that you can buy at Advance for $80 for the same exact reason.
