Why is it at tire rack though that the wheels that are 17x7 recommending that you use 235x45x17's??? Please expand on this because that is the tire and wheel size I would like to get, and just want to know for sure whats going on with that. Thanks!

It's been discussed quite a bit. Search would review the most.

Fit? Yes but the edges would bulge out slightly.

Recommended? 225-50-17, it's the factory size and more closely matches the rim width.

235/45/17 will fit fine. It is a little big, but works without a hitch.

No, but I want the 5th gen wheels, the 6 spoke 17's that come on the SE's. I dont really want any other wheel right now, but I will see what I can do.

Yes but that does not address why Tirerack *recommends* the 235/45R17 for 17x7" Rims. Try it. Select a set of rims and see what tires they recommend.

Vyrus: isn't 215/45R17 too small an overall diameter? Even 225/45R17 is just a little smaller but not by much.

I believe you but I don't understand if 235 is the recommended width, why did nissan put 225 on?

I think for most wheel/tire makers, there is a range of tire sizes that will work. I think 235 is on the wide end of what's recommended.

I could be wrong. Use what you wish I suppose

Jeff92SE,
Nah man! I am with you. No tire manufacturer recommends 235 on 7" wide rims. I think 225 is the safe limit. Absolutely correct. Still, so many put 235 on and the fact that Tirerack recommends 235's is an absolute mystery to me. Do they think that it is safe enough, despite mfg recommendations? Are mfg recommendations overly conservative? Inquiring minds want to know...

Give tirerack a call. Perhaps their websites wrong. Regardless they are the tire experts here. I'd be careful following the 'well other people have done it' routine. Personally I'd stick with an appropriate tire for an appropriate rim. I wouldn't stick a 235mm tire on a 7" rim. Its not that big of deal either get a narrower tire (possible lighter btw...) or a wider rim. Simple.

Well, do the 17" 5th gen rims come in 7.5" or 8"?? If so, then all I have to do is find one of those sets. But if not, what wheel looks EXACTLY like those 6 spokers? I want those rims and those specifically. I think they look awesome!! Thanks again for the input guys, I appreciate it!

225-50-17 will cause your speedometer to be

off more than 2%. 225-45-17 will cause your speedometer to be off only 1%. go with 225-45-17, i doubt you'll really notice a difference of .3" in the overall diameter.

Keep in mind that the 2% is that you'll be going faster/farther than the speedometer/odometer reading and the 1% is going slower/not as far on the speedo./odo. i wouldn't get anything more than 225 width for a 7 in wide wheel

yokohama

i have 235-45-17 yokohamas on my 17x7 and they fit perfectly flush with the rim walls, i think its really a matter of taste , either one is safe and fine really, some people just like them to bulge out a little more , and some like them tight to the wheel ...

Guess I will just have to wait and see and see what the tire shops around here think. It sounds like its 50/50 really from people on what they think.
