So the other day i was driving my usual route after a usual day, the sun was shinning the birds were singing and all of the sudden, out of nowhere BAM! the check engine light went on! It made my skin crawl. Dark thoughts suddenly went through my mind, could this be the errors codes from like a month ago ??? But they can't be! I cleaned my EGR Valve and did a tune up, there no reason! The check engine light haunted me for 3 long days until i got the computer read at my local auto zoo. The guy at the auto store plugged his computer reader and 30 some seconds later i saw this look of fear in his eyes and from that moment on i knew it wasn't good. He said to me "I am sorry" quickly and ran out of my car leaving his scanner behind. I slowly reached for the scanner and tilted it at just the right angle to see the p0400 followed by the horrific p0325 error codes! All shook up in fear i returned the poor guys scanner and ran for the forum!


Ok anyways long story short uhm yeah i have the two error codes... what the hell do i do i need some solutions! I cleaned my EGR valve... everything seems to be in tact.. Any ideas? The p0325 is prob caused by the p0400...



p0325 - Knock Sensor 1 Circuit Malfunction (Bank 1 or Single Sensor)
p0400 - Exhaust Gas Recirculation Flow Malfunction

 

maybe you need a new EGR rather than cleaning it?

 

that is what i was thinking... that sounds like a lot of work =/ but before i do such a thing i wan to know if anyone has any other suggestions...

Yea man, I replaced my EGR about 3 or 4 years ago in my 99SE Ltd. Like you I cleaned it the first time and thought that might be it but nope, not long after I threw the same code so I had to joy of doing it all over again

After I replaced the WHOLE valve (sensor and all) I never had the problem again.

Not saying that you should just bend over and take paying for a new valve, I would have you parts store order/put one on hold (If it's not Ford or Chevy my local store won't keep it in the store) for you while you investigated it.

I had this code when I first got my car. My problem was resolved by replacing a part called EGR solenoid valve. After this part was replaced, both codes went away.

The part goes by 4 names
1) EGRC Solenoid Valve.
2) Purge Control Valve. This's what it's listed under on Jerry Rome Nissan .com
3) Valve Assembly, as it's called on my invoice from Jerry Rome Nissan. Part #14956-31u10
4) EGR VACUUM SOLENOID. This's what Autozone calls it.

 

I was also getting a constant DTC 32 a few months ago. Getting the tube cleaned (though needed with over 190K miles on the car) didn't solve the problem. So I took a chance and replaced the EGR & canister solenoid valve - rather than the EGR or EGRC-BPT valves, both which are much harder to get at - and the problem went away.

The solenoid valve was only $94 (incuding tax) from the dealer, and took about 15 minutes to change.

 

so its the [14710] EXHAUST GAS RECIRCULATION VALVE ? blah anyone have a diagram of all these valves... im just getting confused with all the names...

 

So i went to the dealer and this is what they had:

Valve Assembly 63$
Exhaust GA 156$ im guessing thats the EGR valve.

 

got a part # on the second piece?
the part # will tell you exactly what the piece is once you have it.

 

The egr valve itself rarely goes bad or needs cleaning. You need to clean the pipe that goes from the egr valve to the back of the intake manifold. That will prob take care of the p0400 code.

 

i cleaned that pipe already... 2 months ago

My car has P0325 and P0400. Local car repair has suggested me to replace knock sensor and EGR valve.

What happens if I dont change the EGR valve and code P0400 remains?

Please provide suggestions.

Its been a couple years and I'm pretty sure they cover it in other threads with detailed write ups on how to do it that you can find... but... I cleaned out the EGR valve and replaced the knock sensor (obviously use 91+ octane if not already) and it should go away.

 

I also had the EGR code a couple of years ago. Cleaned everything and it came back. Replaced EGR valve and it has stayed away.

 

Picked up a 97SE with these codes too. As well as P0126/0141 but I have a new o2 sensor I'm going to put in to deal with those.

Regarding the P0400/0325
IF i swap the knock sensor from my 95SE should this make the P0400 EGR issue go away?
Will swapping just the EGR valve make the P0325 go away?

Or should I just swap both the knock sensor and the EGR valve?

I told the mechanic to swap the EGR first n see if it clears the PO325. So we'll see what happens. I guess its not really a big deal if he has to do both.

 

Got the P0325 error code - Erased all codes - got Done - Re - read to make sure it was clean and I still have te P0325 code. If the knock sensor is bad will the code come back as soon as the ignition turns on ( not running)?

 

Got a new Knock sensor from Ebay today - Replaced and drove 10 miles and checked- No more P0235 code - Old one had no physical evidence of being bad but was. Car ran like it should. Thanks Maxima.org
