New Transmission? Or fix bearing?
1995 GLE
I have a problem. I believe there is a differential bearing gone in my transmission. It's causing the CV axel to vibrate when getting up to speed and as well a knocking (clunking) when changing from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd.
My question is, would it be better to go with a newer tranny out of a 98 with a 1 year warrenty for 600 + 3 or 400 to install = $1000
or
get the bearing fixed which will require taking apart the transmission and again costing about $1000 or more.
Do they need to take the tranny apart to fix this bearing?
What other things could be causing those symptoms?
Thanks
I love my max and don't care how much i need to put in to keep her alive...for the most part lol

Have the trans rebuilt, it probably needs it anyway and you should get a 3 year warranty with it. That's the best bang for your buck.
Honestly, a used tranny is a time bomb, you have no idea when it's going to fail.
At least if you spend a little extra money you get piece of mind.

I have a similar problem
. Only diff is I want the 98 tans
. Any way I would go with the new one unless your going to do the work yourself then you may as well just rebuild the whole thing its all on what your paying for. If your paying someone to do it, best bet would be to pay for the new one to install since it will be easier on the installer. Remember you get what you pay for.
My own little addition, I am looking for someone in WI a non-lsd 5spd. I have a 96GLE. one thats ready to go. Not something I need to rebuild unless its on the super cheap like out the yard cheap;p
