foglights no work...stuck...

Hello after not being on here in over a year! Anyway, my fogs recently stopped working. Both bulbs are fine and fuses also. There is a relay under the hood in which I swapped with an identical one next to it and they still don't work. All wiring is fine also.... could it be the switch on the steering column? Or something else?
Any helpful input would greatly be appreciated so i can have some direction tomorrow before the white stuff flies....
Thanks!!

Have you tried manually jumping across the relay socket to see if they turn on then?

It could be the switch on the stalk, have you tested it specifically?

How did you check the fuses? Make sure you check fuse number 53 and 63 (they are both 15 Amp fuses and located in the underhood fuse box) there is a very good chance one of these is blown. Take them out and take a good look. After checking fuses see if the fog lamp relay clicks when you try and turn them on and off.

Of course you know that the headlights have to be on for the fogs to turn on. Unless that has been modified. Any work done to fog lamp circuit recently?

Hi and thanks for the reply. I did not try manually jumping across the relay socket. I'm not quite sure on how to do that.....and I was thinking it may be the little switch on the turn signal stalk....how would I test it?
Thanks again.

Hi, I checked the fuses by visually looking at them. I did check the fuses under the hood and they appeared okay. I will look again, this time with my eyes open, lol. If the relay clicks, is that good or bad? And yes, I did do the mod for using the fogs without the headlights.
Thanks again.

Well you could pull the stalk off (or do it on the car) and test continuity for the terminals of the fog light switch, on and off. That'll tell you whether or not that is working.

For the relay, take a jumper wire and cross the two main leads for the relay socket (not the signal power/ground). It'll be the two large wires coming out of the socket.

Okay, thanks, I will give that a try tomorrow and will post the results... Thanks again.

With all due respects to pmohr The stalk is a possibility but I would check out the rest of the circuit before I looked at the stalk. Do the easy stuff first. If you have spare fuse try changing the 15 amp fuse labeled FFOG ( you can use 10 or 20 amp temporarily if you do not have a 15Amp) see if that helps. Sometimes a fuse can blow but the break is hard to see. Ideally you test the fuses with an ohmeter.

The relay must click when someone turns the fogs and and off. If it clicks then I know that half of the circuit is OK and we can concentrate on the other half of the circuit (it helps to narrow the problem down).

A very strong possibility (80%) is that your "mod" wiring/connections has failed. Check that out very closely. How well did you secure the wiring? Did you solder the wires together? Very good chance a connection has come loose. If all else fails you may try returning things back to stock just to see if it starts working properly.

Both Fuse 53 and 63 are located in the underhood fuse box. Sorry the FSM lists those fuse numbers but if you look at the fuse box there are no numbers to guide you so it is confusing. If both of your headlights work than fuse #53 (15 amp) is fine, you can forget about that one, The other fuse I mention is #63 in the FSM that is labeled as FFOG or something like that on the fuse box. Try changing that fuse even if it appears good. Once you make sure the fuses are fine you can move on to the rest of the circuit.

Underhood fuse box for a '99 (they're different across the years):

Thanks pmohr that should help. Did you get that from the FSM? Which section? I have not been able to locate that. Also how do you manage to post pics, do you have to be allowed access. I can't figure that out either. It's probably going to be a cold winter here in Chicago so I'll have some time to fart around here on the org.

Both fuse box diagrams are in foldout.

I have my own host, but you can also attach images.

Yeah when i try to change the fuse there for the fog, it sparked a little bit? So i don't understand what going on. Before when i changed the fuse, the fog lights would work for about almost the whole day(till i hit a bumper)then later it just won't work, the fuse would be blown.
