right side engine mount bolt

the engine mount through bolt from the right side sticks out. i forgot whoever did work on my car last didn't seem to put the bolt back in fully, so it sticks out quite a bit. thus, i'm hearing some weird noises from the engine probably because of that. when i tried to push the bolt back in, it doesn't go back in. how can i get this bolt back in fully? do i have to maybe lift the engine up a bit to do so? can i use a jack underneath the engine and jack it up a bit?

Does the bolt look like it's in at an angle or anything? You'll probably need to lift the motor slightly to take the weight off the mount. When you do this, use a wood block between the jack and the oil pan. Don't live on the crossbeam because all that will do is lift the car, but not the motor itself.

yes when i tried to put the bolt back in by pushing, it seem to hit something and won't go in. probably it needs to be aligned then it can go in. so i can use a wooden block between the jack and oil pan? is that ok? can the oil pan take this?

yeah the oil pan will take it. use a piece of 2x4 or whatever. it will only need to be jacked up like a half of an inch. should be cake.

ok, i did it. the bolt went back in. wasn't too hard.

however, now i found out i need to fix the lower control arm. bushings are deteriating. man, when a car gets old(mine's a '96), it's one problem after another.

Control arm bushings aren't to bad. If it were me, I'd do the whole control arm. Should come with new bushings and a new ball joint (FTW). You can do just the bushings, but you need to remove the arm to do them, so why not pay a little extra and get the ball joint done too.

Glad you got your mount back together. How long was it loose?

i think the mount bolt was loose for a long time. i wonder if the bolt came completely off what would happen. well guess i'm lucky that i didn't find out. as far as the control arm, i looked at the haynes manual, install doesn't look too bad, so i think i will do this myself. just need the parts.
