E brake problems

Hey, I have a question for the orgers... I have a 97 5sp GXE, so i use my ebrake all the time. It just started geting cold out and now my rear right brake will not disengauge all the way after leaving the car sit for a while with the ebrake on. I looked around and could not find out if the ebrake works the caliper or if it works like a drum brake assembly.

Any help is appreciated, I realise our car's rear calipers have their problems with stickin but i haven't read much about bad ebrakes. I do not think that the cables are broken or seised beacuse i have not let a shop near my car for months.

Another question is when pushing the rear calipers back in on my 97 do i need a special tool and turn them back in or can i just use a C clamp.

Thanks.

How cold is it getting in your area? Freezing temps yet? The cables tend to be split open where they run along the trailing arms, since that's where many shops for some reason put the pads for the lift. If moisture gets in there and freezes, it makes for a sticking parking brake. Usually only acts up in colder weather.

Also, ours have the parking brake function integrated into the rear caliper, I believe the drum in disc setup ended with the J30 and started back up with the A34. You'll need to turn the rear pistons back into the caliper, you can use needle nose pliers or the cheap cube from an auto parts store.

Check to see if the lever on the caliper is fully releasing when you release the parking brake. If it doesn't, unhook the cable to see if it's that, or the caliper itself.

My guess is that the rear caliper piston is rusted & won't retract. I've never had luck with needle nose pliers, couldn't get enough torque to turn them! I used the special tool($10) if it wasn't rusted, or curved #10 vise grips when they were frozen(rusted). This seems to be a major problem with these types of rear brakes on the Maxima!
