Thinking about this car

Well I have been looking at 4th gens for awhile now. I want a 5 speed so that makes it harder. This one is fairly inexpensive. If the damage isn't bad like say if the fender and bumper are just dented not any frame damage thats not too bad. I like that its low miles and new tranny and clutch. Its prolly O2 sensors that need replaced if i look at it i will pull codes. In my area most rust free 4th gens go for around 4k for 160k miles on them.

What you think?

I would hop on it. I didn't think twice when purchasing my 97 SE 5spd fully loaded w/ leather and heated seats for $1,600. Sure I had to replace my suspension (was ganna do it anyways), knock sensor, left and right ball joints, and some tlc, but hey, $550 later I saved alot of money and I'm now a happy camper. Cheers!

I hope you're good at working on cars. It sounds like he has wiped out the front corner, so a lot of things underneath need to be straightened/replaced. I don't have a manual trans, but I wonder why the tranny was replaced already.

mho - don't do it.

Yea, but he could always tell him it needs work and lower the price. In the end he'll still have saved tons of money.

The tranny was most likely input shaft bearings or carrier bearings some of those fail early in these cars. I am good at working with cars. If it is just the fender and front bumper cover i am not worried about it those are easy to replace and cheap. I like the low miles and clutch and tranny replacement. Still waiting to hear back from him we will see.

I got a hold of him And if the person that was currently looking at it didnt buy it on the spot he would call me back to go look at it. Question would a bad maf sensor cause it to not start? He said thats whats wrong with it. My question is if a bad maf would prevent it from starting. If you unplug it it should start in limp mode correct?

If you have to give it gas to get it to catch, then it idles fine once it catches, that could be a bad MAF. Otherwise the MAF comes more into play when you try to accelerate or when you coast down from a stop.
