Simple Question - How to Remove Fog Lamp on 96 Maxima?

I need to replace a fog lamp bulb and the instruction manual was no help in trying to do this. It indicated I should push the plastic filler next to the glass lamp in and up to access the screw to remove the housing, but when I tried this the panel did not move. I tried pushing up and pushing in and it just would not move. I don't want to force it and break something.

Can anyone help? I've searched online and haven't found any information on doing this.

Well, it sure looks simple, but I still can't get the panel to move. It wiggles just a little when I press hard, but it won't pivot. I think I'll take it by a Nissan dealer and have them take care of it - and get a new latch for the center armrest too.

push at the very top of the light and it should eventually pivot, why pay for something so simple?

Try inserting a flat screwdriver between the plastic filler piece and the bumper cover, and pry the piece up with the screwdriver blade while pushing in at the top. The filler piece is likely just stuck (especially if it's never been off).

I've done this a couple of times to get the filler piece out to replace bulbs. Just wrap a cloth around the screwdriver blade to keep from damaging the bumper cover paint.

Once the filler piece is out, you'll see the screw that has to be removed to take the entire fog light assembly out. Getting that dopey plastic filler piece out is the hardest part of the job.

No matter how hard I try I can't get mine out either. That little plastic piece just will NOT come out.

The worst thing you will do is break one of the plastic, springy clips that hold the piece onto the light assembly. That happened to one of mine, and I just fabricated and bolted on (obviously, with a tiny nut and bolt) a little metal piece to take the place of the broken plastic clip.

So much for my screwdriver tip, I guess. Even that doesn't work every time.

Once you manage to get the plastic filler piece out, you'll see how it attaches. There are probably lots of ways to get it to reattach - even if it breaks.

Bet all those poor US kids stuck in Iraq would like to have these kinds of problems.

I got it! I used a rag and a wide screwdriver and got the piece out. At Autozone I got a Sylvania bulb that is a perfect match in color and intensity.

Today I also put on some brand new Firehawk P215R60-15s and the front end shimmy above 70 is gone! It now drives smoother than my LS 400 did.

Yeah one of them already is cracked. I'd like to take them out and see what it looks like just keeping them off. Anyone done this?

I lol'd at the last line too =P

The fog light replacement is by far the most underrated body fix in my experience. It looks so childishly simple, until you gash your hands all over the inside of the bumper . Be careful and don't underestimate the power of the fog light.

wat?

Maybe i'm missing something, but it seems simple to me...

How did you gash yourself replacing a foglight bulb? I just installed my fogs a month or two ago, used a dremel to cut my bumper and STILL didn't hurt myself.
