Check Lite - Then Idle Failure
Check Lite - Then Idle Failure
The check light came on the other day while my wife was driving my 95 SE. It was running fine, however. I got the code off of it (rear 02 sensor) and reset the light. It had come up with the same fault about a year ago, and after a reset didn't do it again until now.
I assumed that the reset should be done with the key on, although the instructions I have are unclear as to whether the key should be off or on.
After resetting the light, the car was very hard to start and acted as though it was flooded. I finally got it restarted (pedal to the floor) and after an initial clearing out seemed to be running fine, except that it would not idle.
I reset the base idle screw and now it starts and idles (600 RPM) just as before.
Any ideas as to why I had to adjust the base idle?

Re: Check Lite - Then Idle Failure
before you reset the idle.. you should try cleaning the Throttle Body.. most Auto Parts stores sell TB cleaner.. Ensure you get the TB cleaner for Fuel Injected Engines..
ALot of members have been experiencing idle problems lately and i too had this problem... this weekend i cleaned my TB and the problem has not replicated itself. It might not be the solution but it is a great start to getting to the root of the problem.
The CEL ... the car should be in the ON position, not started when you are resetting and diagnosing.. If the rear O2 sensor is bad, it should not afect idle, this only controls the CAT and deals with the CAT and really does not affect performance in any sort of way or idle..
To adjust the idle?
check this thread.. it has some useful info also

hope you get the problem fixed.. come back and let us know..
