Rattle at rear valve cover

I've got a strange rattle noise at the rear valve cover. it sounds like a rattle and it gets louder when i accelerate. on closer inspection i can hear what sounds like a plunger noise at idle and part throttle when i put my ear right near the rear valve cover.

i'm going to take the rear valve cover off and see if i can see anything. but does any one else have any ideas on what this could be?

nothing recently. and imagine a plunger in a toilet, similar to that except without a "slosh" noise..

its somewhat hard to explain.
