1995 Max Air Bag Light - Fixed

I had the same problem as many people with the air bag light coming on. The light was blinking intermittently at .5 sec intervals. I read through numerous posts and found the following fix:

Turn the ignition "ON" and press the door jam button 5 times within 7 seconds.

I did this and it started blinking at different intervals approx 2 seconds off and 3 seconds on. So, I tried the "fix" again and again and it wouldn't work. 2 months passed by and the damn light was so annoying I was going to buy a used set of air bags on ebay. However, I got a hold of an FSM and read through the air bag portion.

I noticed one thing and it made me feel so stupid. The thing that I missed was that you always have to do the fix above WITHIN 7 SECONDS after you move the ignition to ON. I thought it was within just any 7 second interval.

What the instructions above does is that it takes you into diagnostics mode. After that, if you get a 3 sec on and 2 sec off air bag light blinking it means that there's no malfunction and you have to reset it to take it back out of diagnotics mode. So, repeats the instructions above...but don't forget to do it within 7 seconds after turning ignition to "ON"
