WHAT'S UP GUYS...I NEED YOUR HELP...i just took the car in for inspection and it FAILED....the reason is accroding to the guy, it leaking oil from both front axle boot onto the abs sensor. i did notice oil one day on my driver side rim but didnt pay much attention to it. anybody has any idea of what this problem is and how much would it cost to fix this. The guy gave me an extimate of $175.00 EACH SIDE!!! I was about to order my Stillin lip from groub buy but i dont know if that is happening now if it really is gonna cost me that much......please help me out....thanx in advance...

Did you fail the inspection because of emissions??????? I would ossume it's because of the CV axles. 175$ is about right, pretty decent deal if that includes labor. I paid 150$ per side on my 3rd gen, but it may have been cheaper since I did a crapload of work that day on my car besides the CV joints so he might have given me a break.

I don't know how that place does inspections, but places I went to in the past just check if the high and low beams are working along with all signals, break lights and tails. Check the brake pads (some don't even do that) and put it on the sniffer to check emissions..... They would probably never spot the torn boots or anything... But it is something that needs to be done anyways, so I'd just bite my lip and get it done. Especially if that caused you to fail the inspection.
Hope that helped.

Worth While Advice !!!!

Take this advice

Go back to the same place and try to take it again...try not to get on the same line but definetly go back maybe even to a different place...I failed for back brakes on my jeep...I left the place went on the highway turned around came back and it passed...its all about who you get...the next guy you get might not check that ??
I'm in NJ

The thing is i dont wanna keep spending $35 everytime i go there and if this problem is lethal i might as well get it fixes since it has to do with my axle and abs (two major things)...any more input on this would be appreciated. btw he failed me cuz of this not cuz of emissions. what a fu(<ing guy....

well, I really advise you get this thing fixed. It is not a problem to ignore, if you leave it like this and get some guy to pass you (which is possible, I failed on my 3rd gen in emissions, extra 35$ and 1/2 hour later, and I passed by a mile w/ nothing being done to my car ) But still, it's something that needs to be looked at. It can be dangerous if you leave it like that too long and if you love your car and want it to handle well, do yourself and your car a favor and fix this. I'm surprised they went so early though, 54k miles is not a lot. My CV joints went at around 100k miles. If you don't like the price, buy them and do the labor yourself. It took the mechanic15 minutes to put put them in on each side. You can also buy remanufactured ones, which might be cheaper.
