High pitched noise at idle
High pitched noise at idle
I have performed a search on this topic and have narrowed the noise down to either the alternator or belts.
The noise is a high pitched wine at idle. It only seems to kick in when the idle drops below 1000 rpm. It usually remains for a few minutes then goes away, then comes back. It totally disappears when I engage the gas. It also remains when the clutch is engaged and the rmps drop below 1000 rpm. I have tried just about everything. The noise is coming from around the passanger side by the belts but the belts all look fine. I had a mechanic quickly look at it and he said that they belts looked fine too. Anyone have any more suggestions besides taking it to the dealer? Anything else I could check. I know it has nothing to do with bearings....just doesnt seem to be the problem with the shown symptons.

i wish my car made a high pitched sound that was the cause of a V1 blower
saw your car again ogredave last nite pulling into the new parking structure.
have your mechanic check the tension on the belts. that might be the reason. that was my problem according to my mechanic.

Re: High pitched noise at idle
you may want to check the belt deflection.

nope
It may be the belts because that is where the noise is coming from. Where is the alternator located in the car? I want to check if that is the noise also. I dont have an intake, only a k and n drop in. the car is almost dead silent at idle besides for the high pitch wine noise. And once you rev the car over 1000 rpm or give it gas over 1000 rpm regardless of the clutch being in or out...the noise totally disappears.
And...
I adjusted my idle to 800 rpm with no a/c and the car still made the noise. When I unplugged the wire (dont remember the name but it is near the idle screw) as instructed when adjusting the idle, the cars revs jumped to 1500 rpms..the noise also totally disappeared. Once plugged back in and the revs fell to under 1000 rpms it made it once again.
