97 I30t totalled 5sp LSD

Hey Guys,

I got hit by an idiot and their insurance it's totaling my car. It's not that bad, driver door and fender need replacement, front bumper needs paint. Also the strut and control arm might need to be changed.

If I buy it back I would like to part it out. Does anyone know how to get rid of a car w/o motor and transmission?
Im in VA close to DC, so just wondering if I should bother to part it out.

Thanks.

You call up someone who buys junk cars, or have it towed to a junkyard. You got your answer in DCMAX, why did you post another thread here?

I hope you are aware of what is involved in parting out a car, it takes ALOT of time and you need space to keep all those parts.

Good luck with whatever you decide,

but +1 to parting out the whole car...it takes forever, and you need lots of room to keep stuff.

What kind of headlights are those you got? And did you paint your wheels black or did they come like that?

He just wanted to let the sucky 4th gen open diff guys know that there's a nice working 5 spd VLSD transmission available for us to fight over now.

I just sit here and keep wishing a 5 spd VLSD I30 gets smashed in Minnesota so I could go pull the tranny...

Would you sell the car as a whole? I am in Orange, VA. I could come pick it up if so. Let me know. Thanks man!

Sell the whole car to Maximaguy... go on edmunds or kbb, price up your car, choose trade in, and worse condition. That's the going price. If you have mods, factor that into the equation. That's how I price totaled cars for parts, and it seems to work for both parties.

In my situation, my mods were worth more, so I ended up parting out. Now I'm selling the engine and carcass for $500. As others have said, parting out takes effort, time, and space, and some grief from lowballers.

IMHO - this thread should be in the classifieds section. But, since it's here instead, oh well. If you part it out, you'll have to have the time and space like others have said. It can be worth it, if you are up to the task. Sometimes you have parts laying around for months though ... and sometimes longer even. Just something to keep in mind. It's not like anyone can part out and sell all the parts in a week, month, or hell even a year.

Sorry for your loss, buy another Max and mod it out. (in other words ... keep your mods for your new ride Just my thoughts anyhow.)

Damn hawks! Yeah, I parted my car out... got some lowballs. But for reference, I sold:

2001 5sp, 50k miles, $700 shipped (it was over $100 for shipping!)
Spring/strut assembly (Sprint springs, Tokico illumina struts, new mounts, bearings) $400 shipped
Stock catback $100 shipped
5sp shifter, rods, etc, $120 shipped
ACT clutch with 120k miles, stock flywheel + ring, $iForgot, but it sold.
Rear trunk, bumper, $120iThink?

Engine still for sale, 223k miles, asking $300 local pickup, $450 shipped.

Engine + carcass $500, local pickup

So yeah, you can def part out the major items pretty quick and easy. The question is, what are you gonna do about the rest of it. How long you gonna hold onto it? My stock parts were 65% of Kragen's online price. Seemed pretty fair, until someone wanted my water pump for like $35... not worth the labor!
