5 speed swap pilot bushing question
is this on a dek by any chance? when i recently did a 01 dek swap, i ran into the same issue. theres something different about that engine as compared to our de's when it comes to using the alignment tool. or something related to it being an auto originally (my engine was from an auto) im not sure exactly what and im sure ill hear "they are the same", but i had the same issue.
Odd. Mine worked perfectly, but I still had the bushing for the torque converter in the end of the crank:

I can definitely see how the alignment tool would just flail around with no bushing in the end of the crank, though.
My suggestion, just eyeball it. That or wrap electrical tape or somethign similar around the end of the alignment tool until it fits snug and straight into the crank.
The alignment tool I used was for a Z33 (I believe, but really it could be from pretty much any Nissan) but that shouldn't make a difference.

lol, do u have a picture for every instance?
u know, after looking at this picture, i dont remember whether it was too small or it didnt fit because of that bushing, dont remember, but i do know i did have to eyeball and get it as straight as possible, as u mentioned.
i see that FS: timing ring is no longer in your sig

Hell, I'm in a discussion with a guy who needs VLSD and HLSD pics, and I just happen to have high res shots of an HLSD from Merlyn's trans from the perfect angles.
Yea, someone bought it Thursday. I'm probably gonna go troll the yard again soon, see if there's any more 5 speeds.

You'd need to remove the torque converter bushing before installing the pilot bushing, but as has been said there's no point. Just eyeball the alignment.
