Power Problem

So this is a strange problem that started a while ago and probably has a simple solution.

After getting back from vacation this past summer I found that the battery in my max was dead. So I got it jumped and it seemed fine for a few days. Then it started dying again. So last month I got a new battery - top of the line titanium whatever. I was gone for the past three weeks and now came back to find the brand new battery dead. Not sure what this might be - alternator?? Any ideas?

Have you checked for any sort of parasitic drains on the system?

So no aftermarket alarm or anything?

Nope - no alarm. Nothing added at all. I suppose I can pick up an ammeter and try that.

Best is an inductive probe but it may not go that low of an amperage. Then you don't need to disconnect the battery cables.

Start with those items that are always on and not switched by the key switch. I had a shorted visor light that plagued me in another vehicle.

had the same problem, it was my power antena not shutting off, and over night it was killing the battery, you have a draw somewhere in your electrical, have you noticed any interior lights on or anything not shutting off after the key is out of the ignition doors are shut and or locked

Yeah it must be something - But I can't see anything on after the car is shut and locked. It's a mystery! How did you determine it was the antenna?

paid a mechanic 50 an hour until he found the problem 400$ later .. so give it a look at.. he cleaned the antenna and sensor or some crap, just try unplugging your antenna after you get it running again and then let the battery charge back up and then park it for a few days and try again see if thats the problem

Get an ammeter and check current draw, if it is excessive (see parasitic drain thread) start removng fuses. If a circuit such as the antenna is drawing current when you pull the fuse for that circuit the current will drop quite a bit. Of course if you have the car door open when you pull the fuse for the interior lights that will cause current flow to drop also.
