Which clutch?

It's time to change my clutch; I only have a catback exhaust & an intake. Should I do just a factory replacement or should I do a Stage 1 or something else? Any help with this would be appreciated. Thanks for the info!

'Stage 1' means nothing, every company uses a different rating.

Unlike most Hondas, we don't go to a Stage 70 6-puck for just I/H/E.

Just go with a stock clutch and you'll be fine. If you want a little extra holding power, then go with a 5th gen clutch kit. Call up Dave B, he'll get you a good price.

If you search, you'll see this repeated everywhere. No need to go with a harsh aftermarket clutch if you've only got some minor power adders.

Thanks. Yea I did a little searching & saw some info to do stock; but I had seen someone saying something about a stage 3 and it confused me. Is that his username so I can get in touch with em? Thanks.

Just give him a call, it'll be a lot quicker than waiting for him to check his PMs.

It's in the FAQs, and search brings it up a thousand times.

1-888-254-6060, I think...else check the stickies. Ask for Dave Burnette (there are two Dave B.'s workign there).

They're pretty pricey, but I hope once I'll get them installed, they will last a lot longer than the ones from eBay. I'm sick of dealing with coil issues!

A minute or two. I'm probably going to make myself a template for a few of the most commonly asked questions that are easily searched for, make it easier on myself.

I called Dave couple days and he quoted something like $217 plus shipping for everything. To me it's a bit too much right now so I just went with one of our sponsors (Mike @ Import RP). I ordered a Exedy OEM Clutch for $140 (free shipping). I got it today and everything looks good. Plus everyone recommands Exedy and I needed something cheap asap with good reviews.

That's for a 5th gen kit. They are direct bolt on to ours.

Update: I just got my clutch changed today with the Exedy OEM and I must say so far I HATE IT!!! lol I hate that the fact its too soft. I'm used to driving cars with normal or stiff clutch sets. However I only put 100 miles on it today so I am getting used to it. I do prefer stiffer pressure plates. It does grab pretty hard in 1 and 2, but I'm just assuming its normal until it breaks in. I feel like my motor mounts are ganna go soon if it keeps up, haha.

so its either a hundred dollars for some cheap ebay junk or 400+ for a performance clutch? I need something that can hold more than 250 lbs of torque...and wont rape my wallet.

for 250lb ft id look into an exedy stage 2, got mine thru the group deals on here for like 350ish. id rather spend a little more and get a quality product. i learned my lesson with a cheap ebay exedy knockoff. what a waste of money and time. live and learn

I've read a ton of threads on the clutch debate and am SOLD on going w/ 5th Gen OEM for my 97. It looks like importcarpartsplus.com has grouped the 5th Gen in w/ the 4th Gen ++ as they list 1985-2001 3.0L and then just OEM, Stage I, Stage II. So, the OEM ($157 shipped) is what I want to order (5th Gen) for my 97?
They do not carry the rear main seal - recommendation for that?
Thanks!

No, because that's not the OEM clutch (hence why it lists '85-'01).

You want OEM, you buy OEM. Call Dave B. Before you ask who or how, Alternatively, just look above.

Is your RMS leaking? If it isn't leaking, don't replace it. To replace it properly you have to drop the upper oil pan, if you don't you'll end up with a leak where you didn't have one before, and worse. Not to mention, the RMS almost never leaks, it's usually the upper oil pan seal.

Yah, I realize it isn't a NISSAN OEM part. Exedy lists them as OEM, Stage I, Stage II, as I referred to them. I did search and found lots of posts and a few that recommended changing the RMS when doing the clutch. And I put in my thread for this kind of feedback so, thanks for that. I do have a leak but not sure if the RMS. I'll need to find out.

SO, back to my initial question - Justin at importcarpartsplus.com groups the EXEDY OEM, Stage I, Stage II for 1985-2001($157). I just wanted to know if that is considered an all encompassing stronger ^5th Gen or not.

I've found that importcarpartsplus.com lists them separately (95-99 and 00-01) $147 so, I guess I'll just buy theirs and know I have the 5th Gen.

I was just looking for confirmation as to which kit guys were using. Mine is a DD w/ modest mods and it appears the direct replacement 5th Gen is a modest step up and good choice for what I'm looking for.

Most people get the OEM clutch from Dave B.

Which do they list separately? You just said they listed them all as one '85-'01 group.

Does the 5th gen Nissan clutch kit include throwout bearing and alignment tool? Everything you need for the job?
