code 1008 evap purge and why did I do it?

in Dec of 04 I got the first CEL on my bought new 95 Max,

code was 1008 evap canister purge control valve and i think 0304 Knock sensor.

changed the KS and that code went away .

being the lazy *** I am , in 2008 I bought a valve from a member here that worked for almost 2 days before crapping out. so I again had the CEL .

now during this 4 years I had to pass smog tests 4 times and did so with no problems. I finally got fed up enough to pay the dang money to Nissan and place an order with courtesy to get the part,. turns out the part number had been superseded with a kit of 5 Pn's I ordered em all for about 225 and installed them yesterday and my CEL is now gone. the purpose of this post is to ask , what the hell does this thing do " my bad one was stuck open" ?
here are the before and after pics,

.

I went ahead and ordered a new Canister just in case the original factory one was sending bits of charcoal upstream to my new valve .

still have no idea the meaning of this set of parts though,.

The valve on top of the engine allows the vapors from the carbon canister to be introduced into the intake manifold to be burned. Since this process can affect the fuel/air ratio, it is controlled by the ECM. If the valve is malfunctioning, either allowing too much or not enough flow, it sets a code.

We see many of the 95-99 or so Maxima Evap Canister Purge Valves going bad. And yes, the part you installed is the updated part that correctly fixes the problem, as long as it is not a harness fault.

Never new about this update, good info & thanks for sharing. I feel bad that valve only lasted two days, that sucks, if there is anything I can do to make it up just let me know.
