Im having trouble starting my max. It takes a long time for it to crank over and start. Has anyone had the same problem? Please see the youtube video to see my problem.

What codes is it throwing? Check that out first.

 

is that a check engine light that stays on?

When was the last time you changed fuel filter? Spark plugs? Cleaned air filter?
Original starter?
more information required before accurate diagnosis is made.

 

No Codes- just had a tune up about 6mo ago and a new starter, alternator, and battery about 2.5 yrs ago.

 

My K&N is kinda dirty. Took it to the shop and they could not find out what is wrong with it.

 

And my check engin light is not on.

I'm thinking fuel issue. once i start it and it runs on the freeway for while- it will start fine. Just after it sits for a while its hard to start.

Did you ever change your fuel filter? What is the voltage on the battery? I once had a battery fail in less than 2 years, so even if the battery is new it may be a problem.

 

I'm going to change the fuel filter today, and i believe the starter is an aftermarket.
As for the battery- I think on my way home I'll take to pepboys and have them check the Volts.

The Shop I took my Max too was just a car shop. I think if after changing the fuel filter, check the battery volts and cleaning the K&N, I'm going to to take it to a "specialist" - a shop that only works on Japaneses cars.

Its a freaking pain starting the car after its been sitting for a while.

hey ive got this same type of problem. Try turning the car on for a sec (dont turn it ove jsut put the key to on), and then start it up. Sometimes if my car sits for a while ive got this same thing so just wait a few seconds before i turn it over and it starts up fine.

 

Welcome to the club lol. Does anyone know where's the best place to buy a fuel pump is? I think this may be my problem and just wanted to check if you guys recommend any place before I check autozone or pepboys.

 

i dont have ne idea. i havent cared enough to fix it. its on the list but under; brakes (pads 95% worn on passenger side), struts (completely blown apart and prob dangerous to drive), exhaust (abut 6" off the ground heald up w/ mechanics wire), and every thing else that could be fixed.

Ive got the parts... now all i need it time..

 

For OEM, Dave B. If you just want a replacement, any auto parts store or throw in a walbro (probably cheaper).

So priming the system for a second before cranking works?

If I turn it the key to On then Off four times it will start much quicker. Otherwise it takes a good 30 secs to a minute of cranking. So I am assuming this is the problem. Sorry to hijack thread TS.

 

Have you checked fuel pressure up front? You should do some sort of diagnostics before throwing a fuel pump at it. I'd check the regulator, first off.

 

No I haven't I really should though. I just pulled the trigger on a fuel pump oh well. I just havent had the time nor motivation to get into it.

 

I tried the turn the key ON before starting thing- did not work.
I had the volts checked on my battery and it was fine.

Taking it to the Import mechcanic this Thursday - Hopefully they can find out whats wrong.

 

You have the starter ground problem. You must be a 5spd..

Hey there... Our cars tend to develop some nasty starts mostly when the trans has been removed from the car. In order to fix it you have to either remove the transmission and really sand the hell out the mating surfaces or you can go for option B by hooking nice thick copper wires from the starter mounting bolts to a trans bolt/neg batter terminal and or the body somewhere.. I had to make 3 connections from the starter mounting bolts to get decent starts.

Naw, I'm Automagic. But that Vid sound like my engine.

 

I would try it anyway. I hear autos may do it too. Its cheap to do and can cure your problem. Whatever you do, dont hook any wires to the positive cables!! Just the mounting bolts.

 

im having the same problem, but my max does not start in the mornigs when its cold but once the sun comes up it starts. i changed the engine coolent teperature sensor.

 

I ran grounds to the tarnny and starter from the neg battery using 10g wire- did not fix anything. After putting the new grounds, I am now throwing codes and have a weird idle-1320 and 325 accoring to the odb. Thinking about just dumping the car. It has 2170000mi on it and I don't know if I want to put anymore cash into it.

 

Not 1320 and 325, P1320 and P0325. Big difference in how you describe codes for the A32.

P0325 is normal, the KS tends to be bad. It won't light the CEL, so you'll usually only find the code when you have another problem. P1320 is an ignition system fault, could be a dead or dying coil.

You shouldn't have an ignition fault just from adding new grounds.

 

That's what I thought too. I'm gonna remove thr new grounds and see if the fixes the weird idleing and the codes. This is a real bummer. I was hoping the new grounds would help fix the starting issues.

OMG!! What a pain the @$$ this has been - Today I was double checking everything, engine wires, fuel filter, battery, everything. I was checking the fuse panel diagram under the steering wheel against the fuses, and I noticed something I missed - THERE WAS NO FUSE IN THE "ST" SECTION! The 7.5 fuse that should have been there some how was moved in between "ACC" and "IGN" So I took the 7.5 fuse and moved it to "ST" and now my max fires right up!!! I have no idea how that fuse moved.
