Recommendations for ebay STB's that WON'T dent the hood?
Recommendations for ebay STB's that WON'T dent the hood?
So the last STB I picked up from eBay clearly dimpled my hood. Now that I picked up another 97, I want to make sure it doesn't happen again. What eBay sellers sell STB's that will clear a MEVI yet won't dent the hood?
Point being, there have been far worse mistakes made here than installing a FSTB upside down.
If there's an adjustment on the bar, it could hit the hood if adjusted improperly.
Yeah my eBay FSTB went on fine and of course didn't dent my hood. You messed up somewhere. The only thing I could think of is that you installed it upside down. Did yours look like mine when installed?

Sorry for the large pic it was straight off my CarDomain.

This is what I have, but my ends that connect to the strut are painted red:

eBay FSTB here as well, no problems as long as the bar itself isn't upside down.
Not diagnosing the issue may lead to you installing the new one incorrectly as well
To simply answer your question. Just go buy anyone of them from ebay and install it properly and not upside down.
If you really want to get something that you won't mess up installing, get a Stillen FSTB.
OP, it is possible to post of pic of your FSTB setup? I think that will clear up any misconceptions/issues and will shed some light on the subject.
Like others stated, I've never heard of a FSTB not fitting correctly and denting the hood. Interesting.....
As for clearing the MEVI, that's a non issue, as the bulk of the MEVI is way forward of the bar.

I don't think it's even possible to install a FSTB upside down because of the two connectors that come from the struts that go to the bar wouldn't allow enough clearance for it being upside down...make sense? Maybe you didn't tighten the bolts down enough. I bought mine from E-Bay for like $25, no problems

If it was at all possible to install the bar upside down, the slight bow in the bar would go downward, causing it to possibly hit the intake runners or TB. That puts it further away from the hood.
I don't think this guy has an installation problem, but rather a wrong part on his car.

I think you had the wrong part. I've never accused Ebay sellers of knowing their stuff very well. If it dented the hood, it was prolly for a civic or something else with low strut towers. Love your prop rod. Mine's a custom made stick of white oak left over from the woodworking shop!
