No starting issue - help!

Ok, here how it started

I had to reseal my upper oil pan due to a severe oil leak, i replaced the O-ring seals, and the front and rear crankshaft seals. I got everything installed smoothly, But when i was in the middle of everything, The crankshaft position sensor (the one mounted near the pulley) wars completely filthy with oil, and caped on dirt, so i took some shop towels and cleaned it off, and sprayed it with some brake parts cleaner, the dirt was on there good. Then i installed it

Then the other crankshaft position (the one mounted on the transmission) was dirty to, so again, i took shop towels and some brake parts cleaner and dazzled it up and cleaned it well.

I get everything sealed up and oil in the motor, i start it up, and it just cranks and cranks, its not even attempting to start, i check over everything, and i cant seem to find anything unplugged, disconnected. ect.. So i try again, and nothing.

But when i was examining everything, i did see some fuel come out this hose ( circled in red), i dont know why fuel came out of there, i never touched that hose, it didnt squirt, just more of it being damp with fuel.

is there anything that i did wrong, or spraying the sensors with parts cleaner was a big no no?

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated

I'm no expert, but that is a symptom of a bad Crank Position Sensor or a bad Cam Sensor. You can crank until you're blue in the face. Not sure if the cleaner hurt anything.

Make sure the connections are good. Everything is installed in the correct position?

You might want to reset the ECU for kicks.

And then cross your fingers and try it again.

Good Luck

That's odd, never noticed they changed the crossover pipe for the fuel rails. Mine just goes straight across.

Yes, you likely damaged the CKPS POS, CKPS REF, or the timing ring.

Test the two crank sensors per the FSM.

Make sure the clamps on that hose are tight.

I've got a CKPS POS for sale if you need one

$35 shipped, tests good.

The timing ring is on the backside of the flywheel (or flexplate if you're auto). The CKPS POS reads that to determine crank location, it's integral to starting the engine, as it plays a part in the timing of fuel/spark.

Unplug it, and you'll never get the engine started. Same with the other crank sensor, and the CPS as well IIRC.

It could've happened when you were handling the flywheel, the teeth aren't all that strong and can bend relatively easily.

i never touched the flywheel. the transmission stayed in place the whole time. the only part of the flywheel that was exposed is when i removed the upper oil pan.

Thanks alot for your suggestions guys. i appreciate it.

How did you replace the RMS without removing the flywheel?

Did you drop the sensors? or hit them with anything or any kind of abuse? Some sensors are so fragile any little hit can damage it. Car modules are supposed to be scrapped if they are dropped 30mm or higher. but thats a module. Id replace the snesor... let us know what you turn out with.

In the past i must confess, I have messed up the crankshaft pos sensor by cleaning it with brake cleaner.

I went to the junkyard and pulled one but this time i only wiped it off with a rag and no brake cleaner.........it started right up.

You can actually "demagnatize" the CKP sensors if you set them on something metal. Test them like Pmohr said per the FSM (if you need the FSM, Pmohr has it linked on his home page). I am willing to bet that it's a bad sensor (either Ref or Pos) More than likely that'll be your problem. G'luck!

edit: just read your last post! Glad you got it goin~!~
