Weird Idling issue!!!!!!

Alright guys, so i started noticing as of late that after driving, for some reason by rpm gauge would remained reved as if the throttle was stuck, but it's not. Last night, the damn thing kept my car idled at 2000rpm when i came to a red light almost the whole night. Boy was i pissed....... Most times though, it just goes up to 1500 then after a while will come back to normal idling position. One time i was to the point where i can put it in gear and just pop the clutch and the car would go uphill with no gas pedal needed. So guys, what do you think my problem would be? My cousin told me to check the tps, but on a max is there any real way to check it?

The car's a 95 maxima se. manual. with 82k on it.
Mods- short throw shifter, cold air intake, submit exhaust, eibach spring kit. monroe struts front and kyb gr2 rear, 18 inch 350z rims, and complete sound system.

Sounds like it pertains to your high idle. I'm assuming your idle was high even after the car was thoroughly warmed up. That would be the thermo element on the fast idle cam. The above thread has pics and discussions about it. I've got mine much, much better now (still not perfect), but will probably be replacing my thermo element in the near future. I think my little "cleaning and re-lube" is just a temp repair.

Before pulling any parts, make sure your other maintenance is up to date. Also clean your TB and IACV. After all that, adjust your idle according to instructions in FSM (with car warmed up, no load, TPS unplugged, adjust using black screw on IACV). Also make notes of where the marks on your throttle lever and fast idle cam are when the car is completely cold, then completely warmed up. There are pics in the thread. If your fast idle cam isn't moving (or there's barely a difference cold and warm), I would bet on the thermo element. They're about $120 just for the element at Courtesy Nissan.

The TPS can be checked with an ohmmeter (digital multimeter). You could also check your IACV and engine coolant temp sensor. The specs are in the FSM. But I seriously doubt your TPS is to blame for a high warm idle.

You don't happen to have a 5 speed swap, do you?

Thanks, but i'm getting the problem when the car is warm or cold...If i go and start the car, when it's cold and let it warm up, it will go up to about 1200 then come down to normal within a matter of seconds, then idle right there. The maintenance is all up to date, and the car is a factory 5spd.

You should really try cleaning your TB and IACV first before replacing anything. I had same problem and after cleaning, it cleared my chk eng light and idles perfect! Mine was IACV was getting stuck so you have to take it completely apart and clean everything. GL
