idle drop

98 SE 5spd. coming to a stop when i press the clutch in the idle drops to about 450-500., idle does come back up to factory idle. Also i notice the lights dim when sitting at a idle at night. I added a 4guage ground from battery to factory engine ground and a 8 guage ground from altenator shell to frame.

Also the ABS light has been coming on intermitently when starting in colder weather. Has a code for the left front speed sensor, BUT if i cylce the key the light goes out and the ABS works just fine. when its warmer out the light doesnt set. The light used to come on when starting the car and turning the headlights on(aftermarket HID's installed with relays).

I tried using the search but its not working. I'm wondering if there is a common problem with the idle issue. Maybe have to clean IAC solinoid or something.

Also anything common with the ABS??? In the summer the light never comes on.

i would get the alternator tested first and foremost. also i would say check the IAC, could be stuck. as for the ABS my guess is its unrelated. you may have some moisture in the brakelines thats freezing which would explain why it only comes on in cold weather, try bleeding ur system when it gets warm out

Replace your ground wire to the battery.

Idle Speed - Clean the throttle body and IACV.

Dimming lights - Put a volt meter on the system and monitor it. It could be something as simple as a slipping belt or the low idle speed causing your lights to dim. The low voltage could be setting off the ABS system as well. Belts will slip more when they are cold.

ABS - As stated above, make sure the electrical system is running correctly as this could cause systems to malfunction. If you keep getting that code for the left front sensor after your electrical issues are resolved, replace the sensor.

Hey guys, I'm having a low idle with my 98 after it warms up too. Been thinking about the throttle body and iacv cleaning lately. What's a good price for that work?

totally DIY-$3 carb cleaner, $3 IACV gasket, $4 TB gasket.

mine has a similar problem. my car actually shuts off sometimes too

http://www.youtube.com/v/hAFztFer8ow

it idles around 600 rpm and starts to hover or bounce a little. i dont know what it is, but if i am cruising at say 60 and i come to a stop sign, and i put it in neutral, release clutch, and press brake all quite quickly, the tach will have a fast drop to 100 rpm then jump to 1000 rpm and then fall to 0 rpm and shut off. can anyone help me?

sounds like some of the idle problems could be the throttle positioning sensor (TPS sensor). check for any codes but my 95 max had the same idling problems and i changed that and its been fine ever since

I think cleaning the IACV and throttle body like many suggested would help.
Using better gas with a good cleaning agent helps too. My max used to bounce a bit when it idled. I wasn't able to clean the IACV or the TB because it gets very cold here in winter and working on car is a pain.
I switched gas station and started filling with their 94 octane gas. After a fill or two my idle would stay at a steady 600 in idle.
