95 tranny kickback into first, possible solution????

i was talking to a guy who works for nissan and he said there's a wire that if it comes loose even a little that it can cause kickback with auto trannys. he said you gotta drop the pan and drain fluid, then it has to be resoldered. could that be the reason for the kick into first??? c'mon pmohr, i know you got this

What do you mean 'kickback'?

More than likely the line pressure SV, probably goes to full pressure if the solenoid doesn't work. Same as disconnecting the DR.

Are you saying it takes a second after you give it gas for it to engage first gear and actually start moving?

no, i actually meant 1st into second. it seems to take a little too long for it to catch. then i get like a hard shift, and she kicks back a bit when it grabs second gear. rest of the gears shift fine, but i tend to think there's a delay of some kind.

That's just characteristic of every auto 4th gen I've ever driven, really. Especially in the cold.

A bad line pressure SV would apply to all shifts, not just 1-2. Are you able to ask him which wire he meant?

Do a flush and fill with Amsoil ATF - Definately helps mellow that cold 1st to 2nd shift.

You learn something new everyday.... Mine does that too. I'll see what "good" fluid will do this spring. BTW my fluid looks fresh.

i was told theres a bad dropping resistor problem going on here. 50.00 part next to the fenderwall that exudes too much pressure which is causing the harder shifts. the resistor when working properly evens the flow therefore shifting into gear smoothly instead of kicking. trans is fine and this seems to be the only problem.

The DR is just that, a resistor. Have you seen the DR mod on here?

In any case, if it were failing, it would be apparent in every gear change, not just 1-2.

Unplug it and drive a short distance, you'll see how dramatic the line pressure is increased.
