starter over crank

my 97 has one problem, the starter grinds for a few seconds only after the car has started and only when its cold. i put a used starter in from a local pick it yourself yard and everyone agred that it had less wear on it. were all thinkin that the starter wont disengage fast enough and wondering if anyone has had a similar problem. thanks in advance for any help on this

My maxima had the same problem and after I sold it, I was told the reason why my car would make that disturbing sound was because i had a bad coil pack...Which one? I dont know, but your best bet is to go on ebay and buy a pack of 6 and see what happens

really? I've never heard of that before. Has this happened to anybody else?

i used to have a 99.5 sel max and that had the typical coil pack problem i've never had the check engine light come on with any coil pack problems on this car. i also now always run premium in it because low octane gas will change the ignition timing so you dont get detonation. that would be the only way that i think the car would make this noise

Perhaps try re-greasing your starter motor:

I've tried that out too... Gotta do it again though since I didn't put in enough grease. It's so time consuming to try and get all the old junk out.

My starter is "rebuilt" by Autozone. First month's it was all good... now it just sucks.

i think i have the same problem, it has progressively gotten more frequent. Is your sound kind of like a loud high pitched whine. I guess i'll try re-greasing my starter and see if that helps.
