Max WROTE OFF...

Hey guys,
Some goofball decided to turn right in front of me about a week ago, the insurance company wrote the car off. After all the hardships, all the work, and a one month old Carbon fibre hood.
Just bought a Y pipe, received it 2 days before.

Anyways, I just wanted to thank everyone for all their help over the years, hope I helped some along the way..

I don't know what I'll be doing for a car later on, but for now I pulled my '87 300ZX Turbo out of storage, put the snow tires from the max on, and I put $4900 from insurance in the bank. Yeeee haw, canadian winter in a Z31!!

I may be back with another max, who knows right now.
I'm selling the y pipe and some other stuff I had if anyone is interested, I won't have any use for it any time soon, if at all. http://forums.maxima.org/4th-generat...ghts-misc.html

Sorry to be so gloomy, but as I'm sure you can all understand, this was my baby, we ran through the paces in just about every aspect, and I'm going to miss it, no doubt, as well as the best damn car forum there is.
I'll still be lurking though.........

Matty

Sorry that happened. I dont understand why you call him/her a goofball, I would be pissed. When its somebody elses fault, and they knew what would happen or if they were on there cell phone, I would be even more pissed off. If its somebody that did it really by accident, and didnt know what might happen, I wouldnt be that mad.

Hope you get another Maxima (4th gen.).

How bad is the damage? If its only that front corner section you could buy it back and fix it for cheap.

Yeah, I was going to, they would only give me $3500 if I wanted to keep it. I could easily have had the work done for that and kept the extra cash. I was faced with a couple options:
- fix it as best as possible, and being as I'm really picky, I'm sure I wouldnt have been happy with it.
- Let them take it, the way I looked at it was simple to me, I had tranny work coming, a bad power steering leak, was almost due for front calipers and brakes all around, and the entire exhaust was toast.
I would never have been able to sell that car for $4900, it had 245,300KM on it (152,235 miles).

The pic shows about everything, the upper rad support was smashed, hood latch toast, headlight and mounting brackets, lights, bumper, fender.
I do have more pictures but they don't show anything more in the way of damages.

You should find something else though, driving a Z31 in the winter is no fun,

ahhh, that's where you're wrong, it's a bloody riot. I would be toast if I didn't have the new snow tires I took off the maxima on it though.

Yeah they quoted repairs at $4700. CAD.
They originally tried to tell me the car was worth about $3200, I wouldn't accept that offer so finally he raised the payout to $4900.
But like you said, they're not worth much, getting old.

I regret the choice to write it off, but at the same time I don't. I hate to see my baby gone, but I knew she needed some more work so I think I made the right choice.
I found an 05 6speed SE for $13,995 CAD, very minor bumper damage. But I'm too broke for it which SUCKS, thats a wicked deal on a rare car.

shoot, for 6,000.00 you can put that down on like a 3.5 03 se. i've seen quite a few lately. or get another higher mileage max and do it over, i personally would go for a newer car with less miles and a warranty. this would be nice....http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...le_flag=1&star or this.....http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...rstMakeModel=&

That is a STRONG bid from a dealer for a 14 year old car.

'96 with 150,000 miles dealer bid was $500, Carmax said they would do $750, I bought the car from the customer for $900

'97 with $84,000 miles, dealer bid at $1250, I bought it direct from the customer for $2300.

Reason the dealer bids so low? How much could they sell one for after reconditioning it? Average recon costs on 1-5 year old cars run about $1200, hate to think what they would run on a 12 year old car. And if they dealer can't price the car to start at a $2500 profit, no way will he keep the vehicle regardless.

So they bid them at what they know the car will bring at auction...

I know this is kinda hard to type but at the end of the day its just a car, atleast you are alright. Can't believe they wrote that off, doesn't seem like too bad of damage.
