Oil Filter Interchange
Oil Filter Interchange
Can anyone tell me what other makes/models use the same oil filter thread pattern as the 4th generation Maxima.
For example... I own an '89 Mazda MX-6 GT. Both Honda and Mitsubishi use the same oil filter thread pattern. Therefore, oil filters for both the Honda and the Mitsu can be installed in the Mazda provided the gasket seals properly. Can anyone provide similar interchangability information related to the 4th generation Maxima V6?

NEVER interchange oil fitlers!!!
It's not about the thread pitch it's about the correct filter for you car. Using an oil filter that isn't made for your car is probably the worst thing you could do to your engine.
A few examples why -
Restrictive oil flow (wrong filter volume for your engine.
Incorrect bypass valve or bypass valve pressure rating.
Filter may not even contain a bypass valve, it may be in the engine itself on some cars.
Wrong drain back valve - this could cause the engine to starve for oil upon startup.
These are just a few examples. I work for a Hydraulics company, we make and sell spin on filters. We carry over 500 different types. They all look the same, most have the same threads, but they are VERY different inside.
Always use the correct filter for you application. The damage improper oil filtration can cause is costly!!
